Been reading the novel "At the Klaxon's Call" about a hypothetical strike on the Soviet homeland and their attempt to return home to a reeling America.  It's shot and under $2.  Keeps my brain busy.

I think the F16 is built in the same factory.  I was also poking around and learned about Convairs attempts to build airliners.  I also learned the F102 was used to train B58 pilots.

To check/experiment on ejecting at supersonic speeds they drugged black bears, strapped them in the ejection seat of a B58 and ejected them at high speed (supersonic) to see what happened to them.  Or at least I remember reading about that years ago.

Always was fond of the B-58 Hustler...she is a sexy thang.  Another bomber that was beautiful was the North American XB-70 Valkyrie sad that it never went into production and there is only one surviving bird left.

Dead Sexy.     Back when we had the F-102, F-104 and F-106.  The B-58 set 19 speed and altitude records during its day.
Nat Museum of the USAF...

And the B-58 escape capsule.  Each of the three crew members had an ejection seat equipped with this
capsule.   When activated, it could maintain pressure and oxygen in the
aircraft in the event of systems failures, and the pilot's capsule had
controls with which he could continue to fly the aircraft.   On ejection,
the capsules provided protection against the airblast associated with
ejection at supersonic speeds (up to Mach 2), and would float in water
landings, acting as a life raft.

My grandmother's neighbor is a sculptor and primarily focuses on carving wooden models of Texas sea birds. She commissioned a few pieces from him and she asked me to pick them when I was visiting one day. As I was carrying them through his living room, I saw a picture of a B-58 sitting on a shelf. I commented on it and his eyes lit up. "You know the B-58?" I told him that I was a pilot and loved the old Cold War bombers. He then got excited and told me to come to his garage when I finished loading my the wooden birds in my truck.

When I walked in the garage, I found him pulling dozens of cardboard tubes out of an old vault. He was a designer at Convair in the 50's/60's/70's and had a complete set of blueprints for the plane. He saved them after the project was completed and took them with him when he retired. We spent over an hour talking about the B-58 before I finally had to go.
