Glad you think so. Fighting shutter speed/ISO the whole time. Would've liked to get some better stuff. All the wide angle ground shots were with my new 50mm 1.8 lens my wife got me as an early birthday present. She surprised me when I got home from work

That kid in the pics looks like he is about 12 years old.

Looking good - I know it's been a while since I've been there, but I don't remember it being that open in there.

Thanks for posting such a killer pic Mark!  It's nice to see the F-22 wearing the "FF" of Langley.  My first USAF assignment was Langley when the F-15 FFs were just becoming operational.

ETA - That was when they were sporting that funky "Air Superiority Blue" scheme.

My grandpa flew a J3 like that off the family farm for years.  My uncle flies it now.  I have a lot of fond memories sitting in the front seat on a stack of feed bags, with thedoors locked open and grandpa doing a slow right hand turn.  Grandpa died last year and was burried in a J3 Cub tie.  My uncle did a flyby with the Cub while the hearse drove grandpa  through the family farm one last time.   Thank you for posting...brings a teer to my eye remembering those great times flyig with grandpa.

I'm very sorry to hear about your Grandfather passing, my condolences.

One reason I like shooting at this annual event, is because of the location. The grass strip, trees and hangars adjacent to the houses, remind me of the days when folks would keep a plane in the barn, and fly off their property.

Thanks for the kind words!  Grandpa is most likely flying a J3 up in Heaven as we speak!  He did just what you described, kept it in a barn on the farm and flew it off the grass strip.  Will try to find a picture.

You're welcome. Thank you for one of the best compliments I can get.....knowing that my photography brings back memories of the good times you shared flying with your grandfather. I'd love to see a photo of him with his Cub!

Found several pictures in a photobucket account we put together as a memorial for Grandpa.  Some of these are his friends and their planes as well.  He used to host "fly ins" on his farm and had a lot of friends that would join for a variety of flights around the area.

This is a representative photo (not grandpa, so must be a friend either posing for the picture or that had taken it up).  Grandpa is probably behind the camera if I had to guess:

Some other Cubs that came out to play that day:

Since I was feeling nostalgic with the talk about Cubs, I got out my RC SuperCub today and did a little flying.
