I'm putting in a 36" steel fire ring at the lake place and shopping for the correct retaining wall pavers to circle it. With this calculator I at least know the sizes and how many to shop for.

Every one wants $479 for the 36" premade kit on a pallet. Screw that. I bet I can do it for less than $100.

I doubt you can build that for under $100. Blocks aren't cheap.

Best deal so far locally is a 42" inside diameter 4 course high (16") kit on a pallet marked down from $549 to $167. He has 13 pallets of them on clearance. Way too nice looking for a fishcamp. I'm still working on it.

Found the best deal going for a nice looking retainer for a 36" steel fire ring.

36 wall retaining block at Lowes @ $1.78 ea + 24 half thickness paver bricks @ $.39 ea = $66.30.

Nice 39" inside diameter and 53" outside diameter at 12" height. Perfect.

I will let it settle for a few months then go back and masonry adhesive the top course.

$87 () for 36 wall retainer blocks and 36 4"/8" concrete pavers from Lowe's. The retaining blocks make a 32" ring but with the addition of the pavers it's 39". The 36" Corrugated galvanized pipe sourced locally for $30.

Graded around the pipe for the blocks with a gas string trimmer.

I cut the pavers down to 6" using a 4.5" - 1/8" masonry blade in my rinky-dink $15 Harbor Fraught grinder. Took an hour and a half and one saw blade to cut em all but I think it turned out great with the 2 contrasting colors.

Another project off the list. Wife's happy.

Thanks!

I asked the clerk at HF how long the masonry blades would last? He said two maybe three pavers tops. I bought a 10 pack for $8. I used about 1/4" off of one blade to cut them all.

Isn't burning galvanized stuff bad?
