What's the construction like on those southwest adobe style homes?  Thick brick or is it conventional framing with extra insulation and stucco overlay?
I love that style.
I love the SouthWest!

I've seen some older Santa Fe/Territorial homes with some solid thick walls.  The newer stuff (including mine) is conventional framing, insulation, chicken wire mesh, and then the stucco and top layer.  As long as you keep up with the parapet maintenance it's easy to take care of (when the house has good paint on it).  When we bought this place the paint was pretty bad and it led to some water intrusion.  I spent about 70 hours prepping the stucco for paint and fixing cracks in the parapets that caused some water intrusion and damage to a few places in the exterior stucco layer.  The previous owners were an old couple that did nothing maintenance wise for 7 years so I'm playing catch up.  The place is starting to come together really nicely though.  The beams above the windows will get a dark brown paint to contrast the light walls.  Still not sure what I'm going to do color wise for the exterior doors and security gates.

Another 'shop light' (48 inch dual T8) in the unfurnished part of the basement and traced out some of the old wiring.
Might pull a new 3-wire between the switches on the two doors into the room.

I SHOULD'VE cleaned my gutters, as a small maple is growing there.
I did clean them this spring.

Thursday: broke out the Swisher brush hog and cut brush.  Opened up the West line for phase two of the privacy fence.
Friday: started laying out the fence with the contractor who is remodeling my hallway.
Ran to big box and rented their truck to bring home 18 4x6 treated posts and 48 10' 2x4 treated.
Accidentally started loading 12' 2x4's so had to UNLOAD them and load up 10 footers ??  these 4x6 posts were fresh and I'm older than I had to be--took 45 minutes to load and unload them plus 1/2 hour drive time.
 FORGOT THE SCREWS!!??
 FIREWORKS!!
Saturday: fixed the mower (bent blade) and the tiller (spark plug).  Ran to big box again.
Sunday:  day of rest.  Only fixed the weed whacker.  Tidied up the house for guests.
Monday:  continued to lay out fence with workers.  EARTHQUAKE auger is THE BOMB!!
Tuesday: fence coming along. Hallway 75% complete.  Ran to big box twice. Remembered the screws!
Visited nursery and got some plants--this was date with wife as well.
Sprayed noxious poison on creeping Charlie patches.
 Tilled garden.

Beams painted yesterday....light covers will get done throughout the week as long as monsoons don't kick into full swing again.  Then off to buy some water reducible oil based paint and prep the garage doors and front security gates.  The stucco took 40 gal in total.  Found out we were putting it on a little "thick" at first.  First 1/3 of wall space took 20 gal to cover.  Last 2/3 of the house only took another 18 gal to cover...leaving a bit for touch ups as the wife is helping and doesn't have the same steady hand as I do with a paintbrush...

All I did this week was mow the lawn and parts of the swamp.
And put up a light fixture in a dark hallway.

Finished the remodel of the laundry room in anticipation of the new dryer.  Paint, New work sink and associated plumbing, new laminate tile flooring (Faus), and built a washer and dryer stand.  Bitch was installing the washer.  Dryer was easy except the hook up of the dryer vent.

I am not good on posting pics, but started laying 16"x16" pavers in my courtyard.
Bought the pavers and unloaded them all..over 100. Got stone and sand base and got most of that down.
Started leveling the sand under the pavers and laying them. After about 20 pavers, my back stiffened up so bad I could barely stand and get into the house.
After about a week, it is a little easier to get up off a chair or out of bed....a little.
Have always been a DIYer, but since I got hurt on the job before I retired, I have had to go slower, but this is like I reinjured my back where i injured iit at work.

I had to recently pull up some pavers after about a year of them being in place.  I wanted to run some new weed cloth under them and it felt like I had a clamp squeezing my back after I got done.  That was 2 weeks ago.

Today, I measured for chair rail and drew some lines on the walls

I also built a new workbench on father's day.

This weekend.
Put in the new mail box post I built this past week.
Did some touch up trim scraping, priming and painting.
Caught a mole, moved the traps to another site.
Put in a piece of missing shoe molding.
Put in a magnetic door stop in the laundry so the cat can't lock himself in.
Refilled one of my storage gas cans.
Put the ground bar in the new 100A sub panel I'm installing.
Modified a set of led flower lights for my wife from battery to plug in wall wart operation.
Got all the parts cut for my portable miter saw table, and the table ribs dadoed and beveled for dry fit-ready for assembly tomorrow.

New porch ceiling and floor. Porch is 32ft long and 10ft wide in the middle and 8ft wide everywhere else.

Had to rebuild the floor joists. Still have some finish work to do on the floor and around the edges. The

ceiling is done and has new recessed lights on a dimmer switch. I also ran an outdoor outlet on each end.

My front door has been leaking since I moved in. I'd tried weatherstripping and caulk but couldn't stop the water intrusion. Figured out that a lack of storm door and proper maintenance by previous owner had caused the wooden door to warp and rot, so a new door was in order. Pulled the old one out and took up the flooring to see how the subfloor was fairing.

Of course, I found the only Romex in the house not run through the wall with my sawzall Luckily the breaker saved me and I only nicked it. Electrical tape and its covered up now.

Sistered up a new joist, cut out the rot, and replaced a chunk of subfloor. Lots of caulk and a storm door coupled with the new door have, so far, resolved the issue. We had planned on installing new hardwoods, but the back door needs a storm door and replacement first. Lumber liquidators is having a sale on cheapo laminate, so that will probably be a placeholder for a few months. Nothing like a 3-4 hour project turning into a 3-4 day one instead! Even the storm door didn't go smoothly since the brick mold wasn't typical, so the trim had to be rearranged. Lucky me I still have a bit to redo on the trim. Much of it was rotten as well and broke during removal. I have one piece I just scabbed up to cover a gap temporarily. I won't be able to get back to it until at least Sunday though.

There are three and soon to be four foreclosures adjacent to my house.  (yeah, the economy sure is recovering)  Well, anyway, I sprayed weed killer in their yards.  I also remove flyers and newspapers from their yards/doors to make the houses look like they might be occupied.  I would rather not have copper thieves shredding the places, and then taking a liking to my place.  I have been lucky so far............

Needed to wall mount a new TV into a recessed area, but needed the TV to be able to pull out further than the mount allowed.

My solution was to make a bracket to extend it beyond the wall if needed.

Mount on bracket

Attached to wall

With TV

The mount will allow the TV to be positioned for viewing out on the deck if needed.

Finally got around to installing some flooring in the entryway to replace the stuff I had to remove with the door. I got the cheapest laminate I could find as I'm planning to replace all the flooring in the downstairs with hardwoods. I spent less than $1.00 per sq/ft including taxes and underlayment. I still have another exterior door to replace, so the floors will have to wait a bit.

Made some pallet flags, first one just panted a regular pallet.  Second one will be a smaller one to hang on the building, broke a small pallet down, put it back together. Now trying to figure out a better way to do the stars.

Hung a tv outside, been wanting one on the porch, this tv is from the spare bed room. Uses the same qd mount as inside, so I can take it down and hang it back in the spare room.  Also the blue ray player is wireless so I can do netflix and all the other junk.  Gonna redo the shelf when I have a better idea it was just kind of a test run.  Also I want to do the wiring dif, but there is no power on that side of the porch, For right now I plug it into a extension cord and run it across the porch, and ideas on either would be welcome.

Lets see

Last weekend I pruned a huge pine tree in my front yard 8' so that its limbs weren't on my roof. (it had never been pruned)

Then I hauled 5 loads of limbs to the tree limb place (thankfully, it's free to drop them there if you live in my town).

I removed a rogue shrub in my front yard where I am going to place a planter box with mountain ash, Pyracantha coccinea or some other nasty thorny bush (for access control).

I purchased stuff to repair fence for this coming weekend.
