It's like a spy TV series made by the Coen brothers. Love it. If you're reading this and have Amazon Prime and haven't watched it, do so. |

Currently watching Texas Rising. It's not THAT bad.
Also, RIP Bill Paxton. At least he got the highest honor a Texan actor can achieve: playing Sam Houston. |

Went to see BEAUTY AND THE BEAST with my kids and my parents. The best Disney live action adaption of any of their animated films to date, hands down, and a great film in its own right.
Also, as I suspected, if the director had kept his (non-) pie hole shut there would have been little or (more likely) no "controversy" about this movie at all. SJWs gonna SJW, I guess... |

Watched the first half dozen episodes of IRON FIST on Netflix last weekend with my son. Pretty good so far, and I say that as a childhood fan of the comics back in the day... can't wait for THE DEFENDERS.

Also been catching up on shows recorded by my DVR but not yet watched lately.
OUTSIDERS - Still enjoying it, even though I feel like I shouldn't for some reason. SHOOTER - Like it so far. HOMELAND - Still a very good series. EMERALD CITY, POWERLESS, APB - Unimpressed, already dumped all of these after an episode or two. |

Nocturnal Animals
meh A woman having problems with her personal and professional life gets a manuscript for a novel from her ex husband. The movie shows the novel story - a murder mystery thriller, and it is broken up with flashbacks to the woman's story of her personal and professional life. I Thought the movie ending was terrible stars Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal **warning** - the opening credits and opening scenes are disturbing |

Into the Forest
Two young women living with their widower Father in a rural home in the woods. The power goes out, and they slowly realize that it will not be coming on again. The family is more suburban than rural farm people. A decent take on a SHTF situation |

Assassin's Creed.
Not terrible, but was hoping for something else. All the time in the animus seemed to be broken up and not a cohesive story. I wanted like 75% 1492 and 25% (or less) 2016. And, imo, too much combat and not enough sneak/stealth. You could have built up a lot of suspense with proper use of stealth. I don't know, maybe I just remember more sneaking in the game--although I admit it's been awhile since I played it. I also wasn't a big fan of the PQ (Bluray...didn't watch it in 4K). No problems with the palette of colors (or lack thereof) because like a war movie, that's the colors of the period/setting. But everything felt extremely muted from a detail perspective. Blacks were almost crushed at times--even during the modern day scenes. You can still have extreme levels of detail even with a heavily monochromatic palette. And I just felt like that level of detail was missing in the movie. Sound was pretty good however. Lots of discrete object sounds in the mix. Fairly active in the Atmos channels. Movies are really starting to get a feel on how to properly use the height layer channels in the mix. There were more than a couple 'rainbow effect' sounds where an object started in the front left, traveled through the four upper channels (ceiling front left to ceiling back right) and ended in the right rear surround channels. And the crossbow bolts being shot from above were originating from the height layer speakers and terminating in the front or rear speakers depending on the direction of action on the screen. In the end, I won't buy the movie but I'd watch a second one. |

The Gift
a decent thriller, drama. About a couple that moves near where the husband grew up. They run across a guy that went to school with the husband, hubby doesn't remember him. The creepy guy starts stalking the couple in awkward social type ways, ie dropping by unannounced, leaving gifts, and things start to escalate from there. |

Patriot Day
Mark Wahlberg plays a cop working the finish line at the Boston Marathon on the day of the bombing. The movie was well done, if the shootout when the older brother dies is accurate, that was a complete shitshow. A lot of tugging on the feelz about the victims. |

The Girl on the Train
The plot of this movie depends on a premise that the main character can't remember anything, or she remembers things 180 degrees in reverse. For example, it wasn't the case she had a violent temper her ex-husband couldn't stand, HE had a violent temper. Just ridiculous. Boring and slow. The writer couldn't come up with a twist or unpredictable end, so she just has the main character slowly remember something no normal person would ever forget, or has her blotto for half the movie to help explain why she can't remember anything. |
