What is Purgatory? Does it exist? Does it matter? As professor and speaker Dr. Mark Miravalle explains, not only is the doctrine of Purgatory true, and deeply rooted in Sacred Scripture and Tradition, but the practice of offering prayers and sacrifices for the souls of the dead is a critically important responsibility for every member of the Body of Christ—the family of the Church.

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.

Beautiful, my wife and I have old two Dominican Rite Missals both of which have been in her family, from circa 1948.

I have considered St Vincent Ferrer as a sort of secondary patron saint all the way back to my childhood in the Episcopal Church as his commemoration (April 5) is on my birthday.

PRAYER FOR MERCY FOR THE SOULS IN PURGATORY

Have mercy O gentle Jesus, on the souls detained in purgatory. Thou Who for their ransom didst take upon Thyself our human nature and suffer the most cruel death, pity their sighs and the tears shed when they raise their longing eyes toward Thee; and by virtue of Thy passion, cancel the penalty due to their sins. May Thy Blood, O tender Jesus, Thy Precious Blood, descend into purgatory to solace and refresh those who there languish in captivity. Reach forth Thy hand to them, and lead them into the realms of refreshment, light and peace. Amen.

A common perception, especially among Protestants, is that it's pointless to pray for the dead. They often have the misconception that Catholics think that they can pray for dead people out of hell. Which is obviously false. Once you've been judged and the choice is made your final destination is set in eternity. Of course, Catholics pray for the dead because they think that nothing unclean can enter heaven so most people who go to heaven have to go to a place called purgatory first to be cleansed. But is there another reason to pray for the dead, even if purgatory doesn't exist? I think there is. Let me Explain why!

I have a devotion to St. Joseph.  As a father, he has a special place in my heart.  I have prayed the following prayer daily for 30+ years, he has given two of my daughters religious vocations:

Oh, St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so prompt, so strong,
before the throne of God, I place in thee all my interests and desires.
Oh, St. Joseph, do assist me by thy powerful intercession,
and obtain for me from thy Divine Son
all spiritual blessings, through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
So that, having engaged here below thy heavenly power,
I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of fathers.

Oh, St. Joseph, I never weary contemplating thee and Jesus asleep in thy arms;
I dare not approach while he reposes near thy heart.
Press him in my name and kiss his fine head for me and
ask him to return the kiss when I draw my dying breath.

St. Joseph, patron of departing souls - pray for us.
Amen.

This site has been setup to help spread the devotion to the Rosary for the Holy Souls in Purgatory.

We ask that you please pray for Esther Philomena Dalton, Matt's wife. She has been helping Matt deliver leaflets all over Europe for over 20 years. In all they have delivered over 1 million leaflets for the Holy Souls. She has cancer of the neck and throat. Your prayers will be greatly appreciated.

Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person - among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life.
