Apparently setting trucks up like this is all the rage in California right now.

I'd rather drive my Hyundai than either of those monstrosities

Big tires also need expensive gears.  Those home-equity-loans on wheels you see parked in the rear start at about 10000lbs and, often, easily exceet 20000lbs.  You just can't pull one of them efficiently with big tires, even with correct gearing.  The abortion of huge lift and tiny tires is the result.

FWIW, low profile off road tires in 20-24" rim are often double the price of tires you are used to seeing on those trucks.

It doesn't have anything to do with gears or towing or money.  Big lift with small tires is the style.  The truck is supposed to look god-awful like that.

I saw the complete opposite of that once. Well, something like the complete opposite.

Standard height truck, low rider rimes and tires.

That too, was a WTF moment.

ROFL The Wenzel. Ahh good times.

ETA: I still dont understand the reason for lifts on 2wd trucks. Just don't make no sense.

No reason for lifts like that on 4x4 trucks either. Once you go above clearing a larger diameter tire, you are not getting any more ground clearance, and you are raising your COG. Most of these abominations would tip over on anything more serious than a dirt road.

Most of them never get further from the road than a grocery store parking lot on a Friday night.

While there are more than enough of those abortions in CA, it's a stretch to say they are "all the rage".  And it's not just CA, look at any of the diesel performance truck mags that have come out in the last ~10 years and those abortions can be found around the country.

Those trucks are like any other segment of the automotive enthusiast world - "it takes all kinds".

Same here.  Usually a little larger in the rims/Tires, but same damn thing.  Fucking worthless.  It's like taking a hot chick and taping her hands to her hips and her holes shut.  Looks and moves kinda funny, and sure ain't good for anything.

Can someone tell me what the hell they would be good for, besides beating the rims to shit on rocks? I never understod the whole "lets put great big rims and itty bitty tires" on a truck. I understand the need for low profile tires on big rims on a sports car (eliminates tire flex for better handling) and small rims and big tires on a truck (ground clearance, protecting the rims from rocks) and even a lift kit with bigger tires ( to make room for the tires and wear out CV and U-joints quicker), but low profile tires and big rims on a lifted truck? Let me be the first to say it looks fucking retarded. First you won't get any lifted truck to handle worth a shit no matter what tires you put on it and second those rims won't even handle the supermarket parking lot if it has speed bumps.

As would those IFS bars from giving up their breakover angle to keep the suspension geometry correct.   Stupids.
