Me and four buddys are riding the Michigan Upper Peninsula starting  June 27th and we'll be gone 9 days. Cannonshot tracks from advrider

Ive gotta  get in broke in, oil changed and all my stuff on it and a shake down ride before then.  Ive got 355 miles on it so far.

Beautiful bike! The Raider has one of the best looking engines, IMO. Something about the rear wheel really appeals to me too.

Went on a short ride this morning, met up with a few buds for breakfast.

Pretty awesome, the guy on the HD (my dad) is 70 yrs old and the guy on the KLR (he took the pic) is 72 yrs old.
Never to old to ride. Hope I'm still riding in my 70s.
Also 3 generations pictured, my dad, my boy and I.

I envy you guys with local tracks.  I have an abundance of places to ride dirt, but the closest thing I have to a road racing track is the Dragon... and that's just way too dangerous.

It's a divisive look that's for sure. I think it will grow on people especially after they see it in person.

So is the FZ-10 the successor to the FZ1, or a compliment to it? Makes my FZ1 look ancient, technologically speaking.

I believe it is the replacement as there was no 2016 FZ1. The FZ-10 is coming out as a 2017

"Hol' up on that car wash, gentlemen..."

Rode the bike 100 miles home from the dealer, and noticed the handling was much worse than the demo Duke I had ridden a week earlier. Checked the tire pressure when I got home...17 front/15 rear. Chalk one up for the pre-delivery inspection guy.

After that, I decided to put the bike on the stand and check for any other issues. I noticed aluminum dust all over the rear wheel and swingarm. WTH?!?!

I looked closer and found the source...

Apparently the spacer was left out during assembly, and the swingarm chewed the sprocket carrier, sprocket, and sprocket bolts.

I was able to speak with the owner of the dealership and he said the rear wheels come pre-installed in the crate, so apparently this was a factory f'up.

So is the swingarm shot?  I would assume your getting a new one anyway.

No. You could put a wheel spacer in there and ride on. But I'm sure they will replace everything that was scratched.

They picked it up this morning. At a minimum the swingarm, sprocket, bolts, and carrier are getting replaced. I'm just curious how much this swingarm has been tweaked from being torqued down...there's zero interference between the sprocket carrier and s/a.

Most dealerships in large metropolitan areas don't PDI (Pre Delivery Inspection) their bikes, they use a PDI / delivery service.

Where I live every dealership on the I5 corridor from Olympia to the Canadian boarder uses the same PDI / delivery service with the exception of the Harley dealers, they have their own service.

It saves them money since they don't have to have a flat rate mechanic assembling motorcycles.

That being said, the dealership should have caught that before it went out the door.

This is a small dealer that only carries KTM (and has only had them for a few years). The owner is the sole salesman, and before they picked up KTM they were a salvage/vintage parts shop. I'm not so sure there's an actual "mechanic" involved with the set up of the new bikes.

Haven't heard anything back yet...

Sent Bill (the owner) a text @noon asking if there was any progress. Heard back @ 2:30 asking if he could bring it to me. I told him I was at work, but my 15 y.o. son was there and could meet him.

Got a text back later that he had dropped it off in the driveway and stashed the key. Not sure why he didn't take the extra 3 minutes to ring the doorbell so that my son (who was aware he was coming) could have opened the garage and let him wheel it inside.

As far as the $400 set up fee, I brought up the fact that it seemed high considering the lack of set up. Response was pretty much, "Meh...".

I haven't been able to look at it yet to see if all the parts were actually replaced. I can guarantee tomorrow I'll be tearing the bike down to see what else the tech "must have forgotten". They can also forget my future business.

Out of the 23 motorcycles I've owned, this is only the fourth that I've bought new. Perhaps I was expecting it to be a much more magical and surreal experience? Am I being unrealistic or overly demanding to expect a bit more enthusiasm customer-service wise?

Nope, shit deal mostly all around. Top of the list is KTM though for incorrect assembly and the PDI guy shouldn't be shaking down anything more than an apple from a tree. The guy you bought it from is lowest on that list. If you want to push it go for getting that PDI guy hemmed up and demand a refund more directly on the fee. It is up to him to figure out his taxes not you. And push the KTM rep. and/or post it on a big motorcycle board. At the end of the day nothing short of a new bike is going to give you that shiny experience you honestly deserved, but you aren't going to get that. It is BS to have to tear down a new bike for safety concerns. I hope they did good work putting it back together for you at least.
