I bought the scan tool for the bike ($$), I was able to remove the factory rev limiter a "little bit early". Up to 186 miles the bike is limited to 7K rpms, after that it is limited to 9K rpm's. Once it's been unlocked it redlines at 11K and has an overrev to 13K. There's a performance plug that you can install (BMW won't install it). It allows full power in all modes except for "rain", in the "Dynamic Pro Mode" it keeps the anti-lock brakes, traction control and the anti-wheelie/anti-slide from interrupting your fun until the RPM's pick up. You can also fully disable those functions by turning them off via a handlebar switch. It's a tall sucker, I bought the low seat. The jury is still out as to whether I like it or not. The low seat makes it easier to get on and off the bike. I also bought the tail trunk, GPS, oil and radiator guards, mirror extenders and heavier bar ends. What I don't like: It has a fixed power steering damper. On a bike like this you would imagine that it would have an electronic steering damper like the Honda CBR600. Or at least a progressive damper. My Scotts steering damper is light years better than the stock BMW one. The bike does not have an outside air temperature probe, so even though the GPS has an outside air temperature function without the probe it does not work. There is no retrofit for the bike. The windscreen has two positions, it might as well only have one. The tall position puts the airflow right into my helmet at eye level, That's a lot of noise and buffeting. The stock clutch is cable operated and the lever does not have an adjuster on it. The brake lever does. BMW makes an aftermarket clutch lever that's adjustable, it's $245! The tank has a strange shape, so none of my tank bags I have will work "right" with it. I ordered a BMW tank bag that's made for it. I wish that 6th gear was a true overdrive, one that would drop the RPM's down into the mid 3K range at 70 MPH. Right now it's at 4300 in 6th at 70. I wish that BMW had offered the S1000RR engine as an option. 160HP is nice, but the 199HP of the RR engine would be great. It's a great bike, the best I have owned to date! |
Google, it's a motherfucker.

A 17/17 combo would have mad much more sense...probably a decision made by BMW. I've been keeping an eye out for a used 17" 650 X-Moto front wheel. Have you tested out the ABS with the smaller front? Does the tone ring on the Strada wheel have fewer teeth than the Terra wheel to compensate for the difference in diameters or does the 650 run a comparator on the front and rear phases to rule out wheel size differences? If you went from a 21 to a 17 and the front tone ring had the same number of teeth, I could see that causing issues basically dumbing down the ABS to think the front is going faster than the rear until it's too late and you've washed out. I say all this, but my 630 doesn't have ABS ETA: some discussion |

Also found out that the X-Moto uses an entirely different wheel than all the other bikes in the BMW 650 family. And to stay somewhat on topic, here's a bike pic... |
