Potential 2019 Ford Ranger Raptor spied
A new generation of the Ford Ranger returns to the United States as a 2019 model, and it may just offer a high-performance variant bearing the Raptor name. Prototypes for the new Ranger are being tested in Australia where the local Ford division has been tasked with development of the vehicle's T6 platform. The T6 platform is also the basis of the current Ranger on sale outside the United States. CarAdvice has managed to spot one of the prototypes sporting some upgrades that suggest it’s for a version of the Ranger very much like the F-150 Raptor. Unique elements not seen on previous prototypes include flared wheel arches, increased ride height, off-road tires, and a shorter front bumper (to improve the approach angle). The prototype’s photographer said the vehicle sounded like it was powered by one of Ford’s twin-turbocharged V-6 gasoline engines. The Ranger currently on sale overseas is offered with a pair of diesels: a 2.2-liter inline-4 with 158 horsepower and 284 pound-feet of torque and a 3.2-liter inline-6 with 197 hp and 346 lb-ft. There’s also good reason to believe the vehicle will be called a Ranger Raptor. It was discovered in 2015 that Ford had registered the “Ranger FX4” and “Ranger Raptor” trademarks in Australia. We’ve already seen a Ranger FX4 launched Down Under. That leaves the Ranger Raptor name for this latest truck. Interestingly, a new Bronco is being developed alongside the new Ranger, and any mechanical package offered in the pickup could potentially end up in the SUV. |

Finally bringing a 4door ranger to the US maybe.....about 20 years too late
in 2003 I was driving a diesel 4 door ranger around Ecuador. That truck was awesome. When I got back I was hot to buy one only to find out that they didn't sell 4 doors in the US market. |

I'll believe it when I see it. I do believe they will be doing a real four door truck but I cant see them doing a "raptor" like version. Maybe an FX4 like they used to have with different rims, 31s and some skid plates.

Dumb. Looks like a gay Euro version . Why is it so hard to make a MID sized truck. Like their old Rangers but maybe just a bit bigger for bigger guys. Still keep it small but make it more comfortable for a man.
Keep it simple like the old ones, improved drive trains, creature comforts etc, keep the price down and watch them sell.... I bet damn well we end up with dumb euro one though, you can bet on it. PS I'm not a hater, I have owned quite a few Rangers, F150-250's. Just not any since ever manufacturer started making all this metro shit! YUCK! |

I'd like to see the explorer with the Ford 5.0 liter mustang engine and appropriate suspension upgrades.
Similar to the old ss trailblazer. Txl |

This ranger "raptor" does sound neat but I bet it will be $40k + and I am guessing it will be very similar to the new offroad Colorado. |

Shit like this is why the 2000's S10s, Ranger, B4000, and Tacomas are HIGHLY sought after.
Why buy a smaller truck when it's the same damn price as a 1500 full size? that's what killed them the last time. The Colorado is $5000-10,000 too high for it to make sense. |

I agree. But with the newer safety regulations, emissions, and all the fucking electronic gadgets that people somehow need to drive now stuffed in there...that's about the smallest truck one can make these days. If Ford offered a bare-bones truck the size of a '90's-'00's Ranger with a 4 banger Ecoboost and a 6-spd manual for $18-20k...I'd go buy one today. View Quote |

If they offer a small diesel, It will end up being over $40k, just like the canyon/colorado.

The new Colorado/Canyon has piqued my interest. I never would have considered a GM before. I would prefer the Ranger, but I'll believe it when I can look at one on the show room floor. Not that I'm planning on replacing the Tacoma any time soon.

View Quote A Base 4x4 Crew Colorado with the 3.6 is $32,000msrp while a Base 4x4 Crew 1500 with the 5.3v8 is $40,375 ($39,180 with the V6). Of course you can load up either of them with options. A Z71 crew Colorado with the 3.6 is $36,755 while a Z71 1500 crew is $46,110 so there is an $8000-10,000 upcharge for the 1500 vs the Colorado. Trim level to trim level you see the same spread. Compare a ZR2 diesel Colorado against an extended cab LT 1500 then yes, the prices are same or even higher for the smaller truck. |

Give it all wheel drive with lockers up front, a turbo - diesel 4 banger / 300 hp/300 ft lbs torque or a V6 with 330 hp/300 ft lbs torque, a 9 speed automatic, vinyl floors and cloth seats, cruise, A/C, tilt, electric windows, no XM/SIRIUS, no GPS, no flashy stupid shit in the dash.
Full sized bed, extra cab. All I want to do is drive it and haul my dirt bikes around in it. I want to be able to nail the throttle and not have the rear wheels spin out when it's wet outside. |

Yuck,
Why do all the small 4x4's have to have 4 doors now adays? Wranglers? Rangers? Shit, I haven't been paying attention to cars for like 10 years, so I'll just ask: have they fucked up the tacoma yet? If not, its coming. The bottom line is: I'm going to buy a beater car so I can keep my 2008 Ranger forever. |

Because they are used as a kiddy hauling sedan 99.9% of the time. The soccer mommies want to drive a "truck" and not a car, though. View Quote ETA::Oh, and this reminds me of when I was looking to buy my truck, and reading review online, I saw a negative review (one star) which said mostly trivial things as "negatives". The one that sticks out in my mind was in terms or ride quality: "It rides like a truck". WELL NO SHIT? |

A small (toyota pickup/ranger/S10) truck will never be made for the US market ever again.
Partially because of consumer preference, partially because of profit margin but mostly because of government. Just trying to house all the government mandated safety and emissions equipment make it pretty much impossible. Just look how big "small" cars have become. |
