I know that particular bike is put a shelf higher than others. Does it really out perform an S1000RR or a R1?

A gentleman on the 899 Forum posted a thread going back and forth with help asking if he should buy a S1000RR/1199 Panigale or a 899. This was my response.
Practicality-
I had to the money to buy a used 1199 or new 899 and having a decent amount of time on the 1199 and coming from a Monster 1100EVO, I still went with the 899. Why? Because the power is useable for city riding. I can have a ton of fun wringing the bike out and man does it turn in! The corners become telepathic. I've never once felt like I couldn't get the bike to hold a line, hell, most of the time I turn in too quick and have to stand her up some as the apex wasn't as wide as I thought LOL!
Looks-
And I can say this without a doubt...the Panigale is the most beautiful bike on the road. And this is coming from someone who loves the classic trellis frame and design of the 848/1098. The lines on this bike evoke the soul and cause endless hours of accumulated staring, even though I have every curve and bolt memorized.
I even prefer the 899/1199 to the 959/1299 faring. And again, this is coming from someone who normally loves all the new design changes in cars, etc from year to year. The 899 just has a thinner front end and looks meaner. I understand they changed the faring for rider wind protection and bike aerodynamics but the 959 just looks....bloated. Save for the tail, I do like what they did there!
Reliability-
I'm almost 5,000 miles in and would be more if it wasn't for the damn FL rain. Not a single issue! The bike is solid. And sure, things smooth out once you get an exhaust and throttle spacers but other than cosmetic mods...this bike is well sorted out of the gate.
Cost-
I built a 899 with exhaust and a host of other mods for under the cost of a bone stock 1199 needing the same mods. The 1199, a bike THAT WILL bite back if you don't respect it.
Conclusion-
Do what the heart wants and don't fight it. You'll end up coming back full circle anyway after loosing your ass in depreciation only to buy the bike you wanted in the first place.
Oh...and always plan an extra 15min into every trip. People will stop and ask you about your bike. I always stay humbled and answer any questions they have! I try and educate people on the increased reliability and the fact they are affordable. Have a good one!
