OK so Ill start posting some pix here since I think some of yall may dig this.
I got hold of a chenowth frame (a running sand rail) off ebay with the intention of converting it to military 1.2 gen fast attack vehicle. I was even able to track down the military manuals!
So me and my bud Brian (in the pic) have been working on it on weekends and here a quick shot of the progress so far.

Gas tank/radio rack mount fabbed and installed, rear shock mounts removed and put in proper placement, some areas of frame needed help as its been sitting in Fl for a while. Cargo racks almost done. Lighting brackets done.
Today will be finishing the cargo racks and adding tabs for the fiberglass fairings. Oh and buying fiberglass to fix a delaminated panel.
All in all a fun little project

Now that is a pretty bad ass build.

Well all the frame mods are done, with the exception of 2 mounts for the radio rack. We decided to send it to blasting and get some primer on it as we can add the mounts later after the tank is fabricated.
Also got both front ends I have torn down so I can build one good one. They are going to blast as well as the rear arms. It will be nice putting stuff together as opposed to taking things apart

Thats a pretty cool frame. What kind of engine were you going to use?

There are more differences between those two chassis then I thought there would be.

It was actually correct (mostly) for the first gen frames. I wanted to go a little more into it with the "1.2" version with the cargo racks to give it a distinctive look.

Back from blasting and primer. It looks awesome in person the pictures dont do it justice

Sweet.

I'd suggest welding up the passenger side sheet metal as best as possible.

Which front end are you going with? What type of drive train?

Everything is welded to bejesus lol.
Modified thing front end and a IRS rear end with a type 2 bus tranny with a 1600CC engine.

Mist be the lighting

I'd look into a king pin style front beam they are generally a little beefier than the typical balljoint front end on a Thing. Also they are a little pricier but is suggest a 6 rib bus transaxle, they are geared lower and can handle up to 300hp if you ever get away from that 1600cc engine, nothing against the 1600. They are great solid motors(had one in both my baja bug and sandrail) but they are kinda dogs unless you put some $$$ into them

Im trying to do this on the cheap so Im working with what I have for the most part thats why Im sticking with the thing front end and engine tranny combo.

I posted this update in another site figured Id post here
All frame mods to include cargo racks, radio/gas tank mount, rear shock bosses and, of course, the passenger machine gun mount is in place. I placed a 30/50 pintle on it so it will be able to fit a variety of guns.
Ive started rebuilding the front suspension, just waiting on parts.
The rear is being rebuilt Ive gotten all the parts in to work on it but my blaster is down till I get some more gloves so Im on hold.
The major components are blasted and primed.
I still need the gas tank fabbed but that should be easy just expensive lol.
Here are a couple shots of it. I added the 249 because I could

I can not wait to see this build completed. I have wanted one of these ever since I first played SOCOM 3 as a kid.
I hope everything goes smoothly for you. Will this qualify as street legal there? Because if I remember correct in Virginia
it would, as long as it has headlights, seatbelts ,windshield and wipers, turn and brakenlights, license plate and
for some reason, defrosters .

Yeah it should rock when finished
The end goal is street legal. Also depending on total cost to build I may offer some for sale. Ive gotten a lot of interest on other forums for them
