On Friday I pulled an F350 out of the mud. It had a fully loaded service body and a trailer with a full 300 gallon tank for a pressure washer.  Both trailer axles and the drive axle were sitting on the mud.

4.0 liter 4wd 5 speed Ranger.

My mother has a 2007 explorer sport trac. V8 AWD with a selectable 4hi/4low option.  Ford made a t-case that does what you want. As far as the locking hub thing are you getting confused with locking differentials?
