As stated, I'm running through some business ideas and a forum seems like a good way to connect to my potential customers.  There is no forum for my specific market so I would like to launch one.  Other then the free tools through Wordpress, MyBB and vBulletin, what are my options.  Pros and cons of each?
Thanks for the help.

spammers.  spammers everywhere.

in the end, i just set up a deny-by-IP-range and blocked *everything* outside of the US from even seeing the site.
otherwise, captcha or not, you will need to deal with 100's of invalid account creation requests per week.

What he said.

I ran a forum for a few years and the spammers made me give it up.  The reward just wasn't worth it to always have to kick spammers/bots flooding the site.

Thanks for the tips.  I'm looking at vBulletin.  How easy is it for a non-programmer to set up and administer?
I also like JanRain for login through social media.  I hope to link it the users LinkedIn profile.  Would this reduce the spam?  What was your typical hourly commitment per week to manage the forum?

Thanks for the help.
