So, I'm prior service Army infantry and Guard, 8 years altogether and got out as an E5 4 years ago. Did grunt stuff for a decent chunk of my adult life and loved it, but my priorities in life have changed a bit (married with a kid). So I enlisted in the USNR last November for the rate of Construction Mechanic, and I'm shipping out in September for boot or wherever they send the former crayon eaters to learn Sailing and whatnot.

Are there any CM's, or other Construction rates here that can give me an idea as to what I can expect?

Thanks,

Green2Blue30

You'll be assigned to a Seabee unit and placed in Alpha company. Nobody usually messes with the CMs because if you guys can't do your job it impacts the whole battalion. You'll be fixing equipment that everyone breaks. If you are lucky you'll have an actual compound with a good garage to work out of. In a worse case you'll be fixing equipment in the mud, rain, snow, or all of the above. Of all the construction rates I think CMs and EOs have it pretty good.

I was a BU so this is my view from the outside looking in

As a reservist? I assumed I'd be cleaning weapons that didn't need cleaning, taking 6 hour smoke breaks, and watching Pornhub in the shitter like I did in the Nasty Guard (and Army...)?

Sorry I missed the reservist part. In that case plan on sitting on your ass, hiding, smoking or whatever. You'll have no tools, or equipment to work on unless you are deployed or doing your two week vacation from home. Use the time to get your course work done.

Well, just talked to the used car salesman 5 minutes and got switched over to EO, and shipping next month.

Doesn't really change anything, or matter.
