What's the best anti-virus software or strategy for Windows 10? I'm building a gaming PC soon and I really don't want it to get infected.

i use the AV built in.

other other suggestion would be malware bytes pro

Malware Bytes pro is very good.
Forticlient is a a free enterprise class AV (plus a bunch more) product that only requires licenses when it is centrally managed.

Just keep Defender updated, you'll be fine.

NOD32 has been rated fairly high.

Assuming, of course, you don't consider Win10 itsself as malware.

Pretty much agree with all above. Windows defender is fine.

Mainly be smart about what you do on the internet - if it's software piracy related stay away and that will reduce your exposure significantly.

I'm giving the free personal use Sophos AV a go. Seems decent so far.

We are in the process of rolling out "System Center Endpoint Protection" (fancy IT speak for Windows Defender) at my organization and what I use at home... As long as you do your part and don't do shady shit on the internet then you will be fine.

If you have a program or whatever that you are unsure about then spin up a virtual machine and test it.

I've had excellent success running Fedora. It's been superb at keeping Windows clean.

Carbon black.

I have read reports that defender is ok as an AV/antimalware.

Run all accounts as a "less-privileged" user and turn up UAC-- you should be good.

Is there such thing as a free one?
My defender doesn't find shit.
I tried 5 different "Free" ones today and they found a bunch of stuff, but will not let me remove it without paying for the activation or premium.

Call the number they provide. I'm sure the Indian Microsoft Tech that answers will give you the "very best" discount.
