It could be the way the driver is enumerating the camera to Device Manager, but without even knowing what make/model of camera you're using, it's all a crapshoot.

If the proprietary software can see it, it installed a driver somewhere. Maybe in System Devices? I've been wanting a way to search Device Manager in the GUI for 15 years now, but it hasn't happened, so you may have to manually search every node.
What other software are you trying to use that doesn't see the camera? |
