Both my current desktop & laptop have come due for replacement. I'd like to pickup a new laptop to replace both. It will be used for work and personal use. I'd like to be able to get something that I don't have to wipe the OS & start over. Needs to have a large HD. Current laptop has about 1 TB and almost all of it is used.

I don't do any gaming. Needs to have at least 1 HDMI port and a network card. I will not be buying a Mac.

Dell or Asus.  Windows 10 is really your only Windows option.

You are aware that windows 7 EOL is Jan. 2020, right?

Something like this is likely your best option:

I picked up a Gazelle from System76. I bought the lowest model and upgraded to 16GB and a 1TB Samsung 850 EVO for half the price. It also has a slot for M2 which I'll probably use eventually once the really fast ones come down in price. Technically I guess I didn't get the lowest since I opted for the i5 instead of the i3.

I'm running Fedora 24 w/o any major complaints. I don't have to run any Windows software locally but I still use it for work. I just use Citrix to VPN to my desktop at the office and it works great. If you do need to run Windows you can always do a VM. I'm giving my son my old laptop which is a low-end Lenovo running Fedora 23. It's got a SanDisk Ultra II 500GB SSD. I got Windows 10 from the school and installed it in a VM so he'll have familiar stuff to use for his class exercises.
