Late adopter here.  Installing my first SSD this week, with Windows 7.  I know I need to turn off swap, or at least move it to a spinner, and disable hibernate.  What else do I need to know about running an SSD with Windows 7?

Thanks.

On the new SSD, just install it.

This.

And never, EVER defrag your SSD.

Why disable swap and hibernate?

Do you write 200GB data daily? If so the drive will only last you 10 yrs.

Leave it as is just make sure Windows defrag recognizes it as an SSD.

No, you don't. This isn't 2008.

Turning off hibernation yielded me 50Gb of more free space.

No one should use hibernation these days.

Just sleep.

At 200gb per day the SSD will last for a week or so. The endurance rating for most SSD drive is 20gb a day. However the total years is different for each model. For example: SSD ABC have an endurance rating of 20gb a day for three years while XYZ have it for 4 years.

My friends and I have our share of SSD dying. SSD are nowhere near the mechanical HD durability. SSD gives no notice when it going to die. Best to backup all data when using SSD. Also save your receipt because you'll probably going to use the warranty.
