Doesn't look as good compressed.

Eerie foggy morning here.  I like the way the trees contrast with the sunlit fog.  I wish I had my good camera with me this morning.

Here's a recent couple of mine from Big Sur, CA
Obviously high res are much better but for bandwith sake, I choose not to host them. lol
Also, I do very minimal corrections to my photos. Partly because I believe that a realistic image is better than unrealistic, and partly because I'm lazy.

- Select your image...
- Right click on it...
- Right click on the size you wish to post (ARFCOM has size limits 800 X xxx is usually the best choice)...
- Right click on the photo again then select "Copy Image URL".
- Select the image insert icon below the text box under "Insert Tags:"
- Paste your URL from Flickr into the image URL box...
- Hit "OK" and "SUBMIT"

Took this this morning!

There was a racket outside, sounded like a wounded (or pissed off) bird. Grabbed my camera and this guy was sitting at the top of one of my palm trees.

The only processing on these was to clean up some palm leaves that were in crop.

Here is the image straight out of the camera for comparison http://i.imgur.com/WDVxuvV.jpg

And the original http://i.imgur.com/AvKioe1.jpg

(Edited for smaller pics, sorry!)

Thanks Quib!

I took there pictures on vacation in Vail last August. I used a Canon 100-300 f4.5-5.6 lens that I picked up for $20 at a pawn shop in Japan. It is much sharper at 100mm (pic of the chipmunk) than it is at 300mm (pic of moose). I am trying to decide if I want to buy Canon's 70-200 f4 L lens. It's not out of my price range, but it might make my photos sharper. I don't know if it's worth spending the money on.

The parrot pics were with a 70-200 f4L at full zoom, if that helps. Take a look at the uncropped ones for a real comparison.

I really like mine, though I would love to get the 2.8 version.... too rich for my hobbist blood.

It looks like the sharpness is definitely better. The contrast with the parrot's black/white stripes is good, too. No fuziness there. I think I'll buy a 70-200 lens.

Couple from the last 2 years I finally got around to putting up online.  Technical issues with most of them (I shoot with manual glass), but I like them.

Very cool safari series!

I just got an Canon Extender 2x, so my longest lens is now almost adequate for birds! I do need to practice my manual focusing again though, spoiled by auto!

Went out to test it and got a Loggerhead Shrike

and, of course, my old buddy (one of a pair that hang out around my house) Northern Mockingbird chased him off and gave me the stink-eye.

I tried to make a vertical panorama. I rotated all the pictures sideways and tried to edit them in photoshop, but it wouldn't merge them. It didn't have enough data points for the algorithm, I suppose. I tried to merge them manually but ended up with a line going horizontal across the picture. Can anyone offer some advice on how to get rid of the line, or how to make photoshop merge them better?

Edited to add: I just checked the metadata and found out that I did not have the camera in manual like I should have. I had it on aperture priority, and it changed the shutter speed for all the photos. If I had had it on manual, I think they would be able to merge.

I still think this is one of my better photos of the year, so I posted it.

Yeah, it is really hard to merge them if they are not all the same settings. You might be able to add a graduated color adjustment mask to the second pic in order to make it fit together better. (Assuming you have photoshop or something similar)

I will try to figure out how to do that in Photoshop, thank you. Good thing for youtube, I can probably look up a tutorial there.
