I know what it is, but I can't find a single good way to upload stuff or anything.  I keep getting told to create an account, but it seems like a giant pain in the ass.

I mean it's pretty simple.  There's a big circle at the bottom of the screen and clicking on it will allow you to either take a picture, or select a picture from your phones' library to share.  Then you can ad a filter if you want and add hashtags to reach likeminded people.  If you post a pic of your AR, tag it something like #ar15 #556x45 #blackrifle #pleasevalidatemymasculinity etc

On that note, make sure you follow similar hashtags so that when someone posts an ar15 pic, you get it in your feed.

Do something cool?  upload it.
Like gun porn? follow gun pages.

Yeah I get that.  I shoot a DLSR so it looks like I have to edit on my computer, then drop to my phone, or to my tablet to edit and upload.  Pain in the ass.  I'm wanting to know if someone knows an easier method than that, and if it is worth it.

Easy button : upload your stuff to instagram from flickr. I suspect you have the flickr app on your phone. You can view a picture you want, click the share button, then one of the options is instagram.

edit: as far as whether it's worth it or not, I use it as an amusement. Kinda like my 500px experiment.

The GF though, her instagram account has gone crazy, she's up over 1700 followers in just a few months of messing around on there.

I got fed up with Flickr's crappy service and closed mine down a while back.  I'll probably end up using my instagram account (I think I have 2-3 photos up) but managing all that off an iphone/pad seems like a pain in the ass.

But hey, if it gets my photos exposure it'll be worth it I guess.  *shrug*

You are correct. From DLSR to Instagram is a pain. The service was not intended for that market.

I am about to start this craziness using this process:
-- old steps still needed --
Transfer DSLR images to my computer.
Edit in Lightroom.
Export the high-res JPG files to my SmugMug account.
-- new steps for instagram --
Pick some of those JPGs for Instagram posting.
Recrop the selected JPGs to square for the classic Instagram look.
Bulk resize the cropped JPGs to 1080 pixels wide.
Copy the 1080 pixel JPGs to my smart phone.
Upload to Instagram from the smart phone.

Since I am already processing lots of pictures, the few extra steps for Instagram is not burdensome (yet) enough to cause me to look for plug-ins or services.

Yikes.  That is a lot of steps.

I'm hoping going from Camera to iphone with the Nikon app, then airdop to the ipad to edit and post will work.

It's really not that hard... Take photo, edit photo in Lightroom, upload photo to...(Flickr, smugmug, 500px... Whatever you like), download photo to phone, upload photo to Instagram. I can have photos from camera to Instagram in 3 min if I want to. But in reality, Instagram is for phone photos.

Well I decided what the hell, and uploaded some to my account. I see why it's so popular, I'm getting more likes on my photos in less than an hour than I do on my hosting all year.

I wish they'd change this. They had some api access but I understand they're closing 3rd-party access.

I took a bunch of pics on a trip last month that I wanted to share and it was a PITA transferring them to my phone just so I could upload. It'd be awesome if I could just use/write a LR plugin.

They did this to eliminate spam. I noticed a serious drop in Chinese based spam accounts that are posts of fake handbags and other luxury goods using hashtag spam with they made the API changes.

But on the other end of the spectrum, after the API changes I noticed a serious increase in fake female accounts following me with profile information advertising sexual services.

I've noticed the same thing with the sex stuff. At least it bumps my followers count.

Email final product to yourself.

Save photo from email.

I shoot film and find posting work to ig fairly simple and intuitive.

Easiest way I've found looks like doing my usual editing then uploading to my gallery.  Download on iphone and post.
