I made kind of a portfolio magazine that I was going to leave at high traffic areas. My monitor is calibrated. It did not turn out great. Every photo is dark and lacks detail. I was considering using Blurb to make a coffee table book but now I won't.

Have you had much printed? I used to have this problem.

Now I always bring the exposure up a touch for printing. Also set my monitor a bit brighter.

Seems to help.

This is the first time someone else printed my stuff.

I print all my own photos. I have a large format printer (Ipf8400), a Pro 1 and 2 dye sub printers.

Contact Andy to see how he printed his book. I think he ended up buying gallons (or at least pints) of inkjet ink and tons of the paper. He had it bound by a local shop. The two books are impressive quality.

Offset CMYK always ends up looking like shit when you go with a large volume printer like that.

Thanks, I will do that. I was considering buying a Chromira printer. Then I won't need ink. But that might be another headache.

I figure they would check it before doing a large run.

I only ordered 1 magazine to proof it, check the bleeds and print quality.

Oh.   I was picturing a pallet of them.

If you don't mind me asking, what was the cost?

It was like $8 for the magazine and like $12 shipping.

Wow.   That's pretty cheap.       I pay $13 for single 16x20 prints.

Err, it's cheap if it comes out right.     Are there options for higher dpi printing?

No, you only have a choice between 2 papers.

There are other magazine printers in Canada that cost <$4 and a set up charge for the same sized magazine. I figured Blurb was on the high side
