They should have stopped at Nintendo 64. It's been embarrassing ever since.

Well, the Wii obviously bucked that trend at least in sales numbers, it was one of the top 5 selling consoles of all time.
They're still living on the gold mind it created for them, not to mention the DS line(#2 of all time).
I'll get flamed for this but,
the WiiU is actually a solid system, the games in fact have had higher metacritic ratings than the top games on the other consoles. Issue is obviously Mario, Link and Donkey Kong and company doesn't appeal to the majority of gamers anymore, so it didn't matter how amazing the games were (and they are I have them).
The idea for this console is to have the same 3rd party support (like Bethesda for instance) the other systems have, and give people the option to take the game with them on the go.
Who knows if it's going to sell like the Wii, I hope it does, simply because I'm a lifetime fan of Nintendo and their games.
here's an article I just read that has a positive outlook on the system, take it for what it's worth:

All that being said I've never been a first adopter of any of their systems except the SNES (which was and still is the greatest console of all time
).
If you wait long enough (usually a year) since gamecube, they'll knock down the price, usually have a special edition packaged with a game, plus more games for their systems are out then. So the WiiU and it's healthy library of good games will continue to give me good titles to play, especially since this massive, skyrim-sized new Zelda coming out next year will be on the WiiU.
