Has anyone picked this up yet?
Is it a letdown? how's the coop? Picked it up and love it! ETA: Title to official |
I get it at 6:00 tonight when I get off work. I'll let you know
I'm waiting for more reviews and most likely a steam sale come summer.
From the initial set of reviews I've seen everyone is saying "a more polished Dead Island", which is kind of a double edged sword. |
Wife picked up my copy at lunch, it will be waiting for me after work.
I have a copy on the way.
I'll echo what was said above about Dead Island. The parkour abilities seem like they'll add a new dimension of play, but if it's as repetitive as Dead Island I'm probably going to be disappointed. And don't even get me started on the "weapons" that last almost long enough to kill a single zombie. I really hope they toned down weapon breakage, or got rid of it entirely. |
The weapons thing was one of my main gripes about Dead Island... how you would have a dial full of custom made good weapons that you would keep constantly switching between as they wore down, then the first work bench you saw you had to fix them all... with your paper mache money.
Then again your weapons seemed to really only exist to knock the zombies down so you could super flying death stomp them. Hell, the jump kick worked better than your weapons half the time in that capacity anyway. |
Yes, that was my exact issue as well.
And... I just read a site talking about weapons breaking and needing repair in Dying Light, so it's still a pretty major thing. |
How many guns are in the game? I've only seen a pistol in a review commentary.
Okay, I've played this for a few hours now, and here are some thoughts:
1. The combat feels like Dead Island, only your damage output seems way less. 2. The parkour works pretty well 3. Night time is no joke. Seriously, it's intense. 4. Story seems kinda meh so far, but I'm early in so that can change. |
Weapons need repair, but can be repaired anywhere. Some weapons can be repaired more than others.
Early on I think it's supposed to be pretty shitty so you feel more like a badass when leveling your skills. I already noticed one skill that increased my weapon handling or something to improve it. And I know eventually, stamina is a non issue. |

The first game often felt like you needed a full inventory just to make it through a single fight. Personally I'd prefer for weapons to be a lot more rare but last a long time, or indefinitely. It would make upgrading or finding new weapons more rewarding and less of a hassle. |
I got it and really like it. Good graphics and fun. You can unlock perks to throw primary weapons which is good fun. I highly recommend it for someone who wants a far cry type game (not as cluttered of a map as far cry) with zombies.

And I have plenty of those, junk metal weapons can be dismantled into more metal parts. No crafting bench or anything like it necessary to craft, upgrade, or repair weapons. |

Thanks, that sounds more promising than Dead Island. |

I'm waiting for this to go on sale. As some state, it's basically a Dead Island remake.

Quoted: I'm waiting for this to go on sale. As some state, it's basically a Dead Island remake. View Quote Yeah, from what I read this is essentially a sequel to Dead Island. The team involved in making the sequel was split on which way to go, so we ended up with Dead Island 2 and Dying Light. |
I played for a little while last night. The parkour stuff took me a little time to get the hang of, well remembering to hold the button
So far it's been fun. |
Has anyone tried coop?
Does coop progress save towards everyone's campaign? Or is it like far cry, you can only do certain things |

I would think it saved towards both, any mission we wanted to do, we both had to be there (whether to pick it up, or complete it) |

View Quote From what I've read and the gameplay I've seen on youtube, this is a pretty decent way of putting it. Far Cry crossed with Dead Island. I'll probably pick it up pretty soon on PS4. Graphics look amazing too |

Planning on picking it up when it goes on sale on steam, since I won't be able to play it for a while anyway.
Has anyone here found any firearms yet? Are they as clunky as they were in DI? |

Police vans sometimes have guns in them. I have only found a handgun, and I didn't use it because a guy wanted it for a quest. ETA: You can do this with guns apparently: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVPnbSba-Js View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

I did notice from watching someone play that guns don't seem to degrade. Looks like it's just going to be a matter of ammo being extremely scarce. |

Techland hit a homerun with this game. I absolutely despised Dead Island (even hated Dead Rising but it's not a Techland game) and always looked at Techland as a shit developer so I expected this game to be a complete flop. After reading a few user reviews and watching a few streams I deceided to give it a try. 12 hours in with some co-op and only 15ish% complete on the story this game is a lot of fun. Easily one of the best zombie games out there right now and this has been the first person zombie game people have been waiting for IMHO. My only complaint is I wish the map was bigger, but there seems to be so much to do and I'm having too much fun to really notice it.
A solid 8 out of 10 for me. |

I should note that I have the PS4 version. Many PC users have a lot of issues from what I read. So PC users be advised until they patch it or new drivers are released for your video card.

View Quote Yeah, I'm waiting. From what I've seen, it has an issue with bottlenecking on your CPU because it can't utilize multiple cores properly. SLI is broken as well. |
I have to admit the game looks interesting and it appears to have better polish than Dead Island.
I'm interested... but not full price interested. I think it will be at least 30% off if not more by the summer sale, so I'll bide my time. |
Dying Light ? Korek Machete [EASTER EGG]: http://youtu.be/N7NWKSd6wOQ
Bad ass machete. |
The zombies are funny.
The heights are terrifying... ...unless you are kicking zombies off a cliff or bridge. |
Well at around 45% the game got a lot bigger. There is a second town (second open world map).
Need people to play with, myself and one other currently going through but haven't really made much progress. Just BSing around taking our time.
steam: jatobi |

Maybe I'll watch a few streams on the PS4 later and pick it up. Guy at GameStop almost talked me into it the other day but I generally don't buy new games.

Anyone find a rifle/ar/shotgun yet? If so,where? View Quote I've found a bunch. Keep going with the main quests and you will find them. Play co-op with someone who is farther into the game, just have them join into your session. It helps you get your skills up and progress faster and makes the game even more fun. |
I wanna give it a try, but I think I'm gonna wait 'till it goes on sale.

i found my first pistol in a shed off the main stretch, with a little bit of ammo, guy was in a chair with a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head, took the pistol from his cold dead hand

Lockpicking police vehicles is time consuming and also appears to have an element of random drops - a guy I was watching play was trying to get a gun but kept finding either ammo or nothing, even in vehicles where other people online had found firearms. But one review I watched showed some late-game play and the guy said that he was getting guns with some regularity by the end, so it sounds like that stuff comes in time. |

At around 42% story the game throws guns at you. I only use them when I'm fighting hamans with guns. |

I found a double barreled shotgun.
Thing is, I had to jump in the middle of a house fire to get it. |
How does co-op work?
If my friend is 30% through the game can I jump in and play co-op with him at that point or do we have to restart our own 'campaign?' |
