What is CCU?

And...I'm really lusting after that Gladius, and wish it was a starter pack.

Okay, now that this game is coming into it's own, I'm ready to buy in. Busdy is buying an Aurora. What fighter should I buy to act as an escort in? ~$100 is my limit. I'm sorta boggled by the minutae.
Do you need a package too or will you just ccu the package? If going for a package to ccu get the Mustang Alpha($30 in ccu credit vs $25 for the aurora) as the base, and wait a few days for Free Fly week to see which ship you like. In that price range you're looking at: Aurora, Mustang, 325a, and Avenger. A Gladius at $90 will be $20 over your budget with the ccu. If you don't want sq42 and just want a ship starter go with the mustang again, but now the Gladius is $5 over your budget. Something to remember though, they keep tweaking how all the ships fly. So that Avenger Titan that turns on a dime today can turn into a drifty tugboat next patch.
What is CCU?

And...I'm really lusting after that Gladius, and wish it was a starter pack.

CCU: Cross Chassis Upgrade, taking a starter pack with a different ship and adding extra money to make it the better ship.
Once you have any game package, go here: Upgrades to select the package you want to upgrade and the ship you want it to be. For example, an Aurora that cost $30 would then cost $60 to make into a $90 Gladius.

My suggestion would be get into the game, earn some rental credits, try out a Gladius, a Hornet and an Avenger and then decide if they're worth the extra cash for yourself. If you spawn on the space station and ask, someone will likely spawn any ship you want to try if you use the chat window.

You can buy a starter pack and then cross chassis upgrade it to a Gladius if you want.  If you haven't created an account on the RSI site, could you use my referral code?  I'm one use away from getting the buggie.  STAR-BDBQ-VZV3  The Gladius would be a few out of budget unless you could find someone on r/shiptrades with a package like the Mustang Omega.  I'd offer to make you a deal on my Omega?Delta package, but it's not giftable.

Edit:

I didn't see Kharn's post.  That's the best way to go IMO.

I'll be buying next week. Sure wish they offered a one week trial though. I already created an account unfortunately on the RSI site, as soon as it went live. My handle on there will be Noctum.

EDIT: Apparently, free to play til the 22nd, starting today.

SC and ED are both teenagers who are facing the challenges of growing into grown-up games.

SC has the same GPA in school, but he's taking tougher courses.  He's going to be a game-changer when he grows up...if he keeps his shit together long enough for that to happen.

ED is destined for a middle-management desk job.  Nothing super creative, risk-averse.  But there's always hope that he'll get hypnotized at a self-help convention and become the person he pictures himself being when he plays Dungeons & Dragons by himself.

SC is space local to one planet in one system at the moment.  It's quite good, despite being in very, very early development.

If you haven't joined the RSI Web site yet please feel free to use my referral code and get 5,000 UEC (credits, money, moolah).

Bought a two-pack of Cougar MFDs so I could stop trying to remember obscure keyboard shortcuts, needed extra USB ports, so I might as well get that front media center for my case, then a needed adapter and those $60 MFDs just ended up costing $135.

Check out some of the photoshopped layout cards for DCS, the WWII and Korea ones usually end up looking like part of the plane's instruments (sometimes with reference material in the middle like carb settings or stall speeds) while more modern stuff just gets a static MFD image that can be lame. I'll probably go with the former design,  not sure how I'll handle the coloring, etc though since i don't have Photoshop. The one i found for SC was too cluttered and lacking in contrast to be usable.

Heads up, you can grab a freelancer max > prospector CCU for $0 in case you want to think on it.  Storage wise it looks like an unarmed Freelancer Dur.  I nabbed 3x CCU's in case anyone needs one.  (I'm keeping one, but you know what I mean)

24m long
2x TR3 engines
128 units cargo
1 S1 fixed mount (so far)
the rest is undecided for the most part

Well, crap.  I only have 3 ships to work with....Archimedes, DUR, or MAX.  Whatever happened to cross-chassis downgrades?  I'd love to use the Super Hornet for this.

I really don't want to spend more money, but I'd really like a solo mining platform.  Might have to sneak it in somehow.

I'll probably pick one up at some point in universe.  Black Interstellar is heavily weighted towards freight and exploration.  A small ship to exploit discoveries would be an excellent addition to the fleet, but the point is 'the fleet'.  It would/will be an org ship that wouldn't primarily be flown by me.

ATM, the org is limited to my real world gaming buddies, most of whom are poor as dirt (one of whom only has the game at all because I gifted him an LN package).

I DO have multiple accounts with multiple packages, so I've got the ability to 'loan' a character to other friends who might want to play an alternate career for a bit.  If I'd been thinking when I did all that, I might have done it differently and be closing on concierge with my main account.

Sadly, I'm a pathological collector, and will no doubt eventually end up with one.  Hell, I'll probably end up with a mothballed Javelin floating somewhere in storage just because.

Question

What game modes are you guys enjoying the most?

I find myself playing Arena Commander exclusively. With the latest patch I have a few ships to experiment with weapons and equipment to see what works best.

Although ballistic weapons have an ammo count they do a good job of busting through shields and getting points.

I decided to just convert the MAX to a Prospector.  I didn't want to spend the $110 on my Archimedes, so my only options were my DUR or MAX...and I think I have enough cargo capacity, so I kept the DUR.

The Prospector is a great ship, I think.  First real ship you can just go out solo and make a living with on your own terms...don't need missions, bounties, etc., although those will probably be more profitable.  Look forward to playing it someday.

Great thing is, the numbers match up perfectly with a Hull B.  You can get 12 full loads from a Prospector onto a B.  Shame I don't think we'd have enough Prospectors to fill a Hull in one go, but it was a thought.

12 Prospectors, a Hull B, and escort fighter or two would be a perfect little setup.  End up hauling 24 full miners of ore out in a go if the Hull gets filled, then the Prospectors fill up.

How the hell am I the first to mention this here???

Naaa, just some minor update it looks like.  I got a ping that said patch live now.  No idea what's in it.  Disappointing, a little.

ETA:  Well wtf...maybe that ping was for something else entirely, I'm not sure wtf updated, unless it was just a loader update.  That's normally a good sign of things to come, but still, I'm going to have to check my source and see if that's what got them all excited.

Gave me a freaking heart attack

Btw, it is  official.. hangar ready Reliant and flight ready Starfarer in 2.4.  Now a little bird has told me that 2.4 is in NDA testing right now, so we'll see what happens.  I'm crossing my fingers they drop it to the open PTU in the next few days, but since I'm not involved in testing, it's all guessing.

Polaris: Concepts are being worked on
300 Series: Rework scheduled for later
Redeemer: Rework scheduled for later

Unrelated:
VR: Not being actively worked on, but there is a plan for it. See ATV from (3 weeks ago?)
Monthly Report scheduled for next Friday

I keep forgetting that I bought an Archimedes when they were first sold. I plan to attach it to my Reclaimer.
