I really hope SQ42 comes out at the end of this year or the beginning of next year. I'm pretty sure it will bring in a lot of new blood into the game. I can't wait to see where this game is 4-5 years after development is complete with how many new ships and classes of ship they come up with.

They will probably have a polished demo out by Christmas, but I don't expect that SQ42 will be released until the summer at the earliest. I expect that they will "officially release" the PU or at least move into the beta phase by Christmas of next year. It looks like 4.0 will be nearly feature complete.

I'll be happy if we get a single chapter of it to play while they work on the rest.

The first shot of the Polaris, where they showed the white box version and the Gladius in the bay, it looked like a little care would let you put 2 in there.

I want a Polaris without the bay.  Same firepower, same equipment, no pocket carrier.  That machine would be a handful.

Yeah, despite the hanger being described as "for a single light fighter", there's a lot of talk of fitting up to a Cutlass-size ship (or more than one Gladius) in there.

I would have liked to see it without the bay, too, but it seems like they want every ship Connie-sized up be able to carry a launchable craft of some sort.

That's not what Erin Roberts said. There were a couple of animation issues they didn't get worked out in time but that everything was there and ready for a demo. We'll see it in November.

So Sabre and smaller fit in the Polaris bay.
I was really hoping for a Cutlass to fit, the combination of logistics and combat would be nice.

I'm interested to see if they put artificial restrictions to prevent things like the Dragonfly in the Freelancer hold.  If they don't (and they said they won't), there's still a chance you can squeeze a Cutlass in there.  The dimensions of the bay seem to be large enough.

I'd be very happy if they go with the "If it fits it sits". Could do some serious cargo hauling with the Idris.

I'm thinking a Hornet Ghost or a Hornet Tracker would be a fantastic pairing with the Polaris. Ghost can fly ahead, scout, and come back, and going by stated targets for final balancing of armor/etc, will be able to hang in a fight and survive longer than a Sabre for an eventual to return to the Polaris for repair. Alternately, a Hornet Tracker could fly ahead acting like an AWACS and picking out any nasty surprises that could be waiting ahead for the Polaris, while again being able to hang in a fight.

Avenger Warlock would probably be amazing as well for combat engagements against known assailants. Use that huge engine and its small size to blast by an opposing cap ship, EMP it, and let the Polaris get some free torpedo hits in. I'm guessing the Retaliator will probably be the Polaris' biggest non-capital enemy by a wide margin. Warlock would probably be helpful here too... force the Retaliator to drift on a straight line long enough for the Polaris to blast it.

I'm also thinking a Polaris with 2-4 Vanguards flying its wing would be a pretty slick recon-in-force setup that can go a long way out and back without having to bring a Starfarer along.

I'm not really sold on the Terrapin yet, but I think it would fit the role of "AWACS" better than a Hornet Tracker.

If the docking bay on the Polaris allows the Tracker to swap modules to become a Super Hornet (or just more combat focused) while out on patrol, that could be a significant consideration.

No, some cocksuckers are going the whole hyperbole route because SQ42 was pushed back to a teaser in a month or two.  That said, I am getting nervous that 3.0 won't be out by Christmas. If that one doesn't come out, IMO it won't bode well with the masses after all the hype.

3.0 by Christmas? That would mean they get the interim release of 2.6 out the door probably within the next week, and then work really fast on 3.0. I'd personally expect 2.6 sometime in November, with 3.0 in 2017 given CIG's past track record.

Oh I agree.  It was (I think) gamescom when CR said they were aiming for the holiday for 3.0 though.

Every ship with an airlock has a brig.  Take away their suit, disable the controls, and tell them if they misbehave they get spaced.

Seems to me that a cryo chamber should work for most issues.  Less space used than a brig.  Of course, if you're on a patrol that's days long and you use the time out a punishment rather than a storage medium until you can get the malefactor back for trial, a brig might be an idea.

I wonder if the Polaris can refit ships,  like changing a Hornet from dish to ball if a fight is expected, or cargo bin to make a supply run.

I really fucking hope they either fix the Avenger or let non-Warlock variant pilots exit via the canopy instead of the rear. Even though it's my cheapest ship, it's still my favorite to fly... except I just don't bother lately because I'm tired of being fired out the roof or the floor when I leave the cockpit. Free-flying the Warlock has been a dream because I can actually use my danged Avenger again.
