View Quote Hopefully the new AMD cards deliver because it's a nightmare finding a 30xx card. When I got my 1080 it wasn't nearly this bad. No need to explain that 32gb of RAM either. I think that will become more common soon enough, certain poorly optimized games have gone over 16gb for me, it's been worth buying 32gb just to not have to deal with all these new games with their memory leaks. |

Just finished adding a second 360 rad and 3080Ti to my system, had to get creative with the top mounts for the rad. Just finished leak testing and took this picture at first boot, still need to work on hiding some wiring but will need to order some cable extensions to do it since my fan controller is mounted at the bottom of my case.
The EK block on the 3080 cards is HUGE, I had to remove some of the mounting screws for my radiator and the card is actually pushing the radiator about 1/8" away from the case on one side, will have to drill some new mounting holes for the radiator later and relocate. Not shown is a 7in HDMI display mounted inside the glass side panel of the case that displays all system information by way of AIDA64, will be mounting a Samsung Odyssey G9 to my desk as soon as the bracket arrives. Due to this a lot of people have gone to companies offering a pre-built product since they're the only ones who can get their hands on GPU's. Either way though, Newegg would be a good place to start. They have a "PC Builder" tool that helps select compatible products, or you could just pick from a list of their prebuilt ones as well. https://www.newegg.com/tools/custom-pc-builder?cm_sp=Head_Navigation-_-Under_Search_Bar-_-PC+Builder&icid=623090 Or this could be a good prebuilt to start with. Decent specs, might need more memory for some of the newer games but overall not terrible. https://www.newegg.com/cyberpowerpc-gamer-master-gm60070/p/N82E16883230564R |

New rig for a new year.
Gave my Son my Quake build (that's lasted about 5 years) posted above. I wanted to try as much of NZXT's products as possible, only skipped on their mother board as Microcenter had a $351 Asus+12th-i7 combo that I couldn't pass up. That's a $200ish mb + $300+ processor. Only thing was I needed to get DDR5 memory, which is pricey. Going with something new this time around, a thermal mount to evenly push down the CPU. CPU: Intel i5 Core 12600k
Motherboard: MSI Z790 MAG Tomahawk WiFi DDR4 RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro 32Gb DDR4 3600MHz 18CL Boot: Samsung 980 Pro 2Tb SSD GPU: XFX Swift AMD RX 6700 XT 12Gb GDDR6 Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin RGB Case: Corsair 4000D Airflow RGB w/6 total RGB fans PSU: Power Supply 850w 80+ Gold Modular Peripherals: Razor Naga Trinity mouse, Logitech 120 keyboard(freebie) and cheap 1080p Koorui 24" 165Hz monitor I'm waiting for my CPU and GPU to be delivered today, so assembly can be finished. Once I have it all up and running, I'll add photos. FIRST BOOT!!!! Attached File Tested the start of Baldur's Gate 3 and hit 165fps peak, so the setup is definitely performing. First Cinebench test of the CPU, no overclock Attached File After enabling XMP Attached File Auto-overclock of the GPU via AMD Adrenaline Attached File Overclocked the GPU using AMD's software to auto-overclock and with XMP enabled I ran a 15838 in Cinebench on my next multi-core stress test. Temperatures never exceeded 67°C on the CPU, nor 50°C on the GPU(doing the AMD stress test in their app). CPU frequency hit over 4600MHz on both the single and multi core tests. Voltage exceeded 1.3v on single core and 1.2v on multi core. Looking at the performance and temps,I don't see a reason to risk instability with further tuning. I'd say it's ready for gaming! ETA 11AUG2023: Learned more about overclocking. Set my personal goals at slightly undervolted, max load temperatures under 80C and hopefully over 5GHz P-core and 4GHz E-core After a few hours, I finished at what I consider good for my air-cooled setup. CPU Voltage: 1.259v Max Watts: 181.6W P-cores: 4989 MHz (5GHz) E-cores: 3991 MHz (4GHz) Highest Temp at 100% load: 78C package, 78C P-cores, 54C E-cores Cinebench 30-minute (stability) multi-core score: 18983 (quick test), 18033 (10-minute) and 18056 (30-minute) I'm also still getting great FPS, too. Still way over 100FPS on most games that aren't 60FPS locked. Cinebench scores: Attached File |

So it's been a little while. I've now doubled-up on RAM and storage.
I've added two more 32gb 3600 CL18 DDR4 Corsair Vengeance Pros, so now I'm at 64gb 3600 CL18 DDR4. I needed and installed a second Samsung 980 Pro 2TB SSD for media storage as I've now decided to get into content creation and I'm planning to add another for game storage and overflow. I tried out the Corsair H100x AIO, but it is less efficient than my dual fan, air-cooled Peerless Assassin cooler, so I've gone back to that. Cinebench is scoring between 17400-17500 still overclocked so really good for an Intel i5 12600k processor and AMD 6700XT graphics card. I've added a second ASUS 1080p 165Hz monitor, dual-monitor mount, Blue Yeti mic and mic arm, LED scene light and fancy mousepad. All is mounted to my new computer desk. Attached File Edit: In the middle of October 2023 and I've upgraded from my XFX AMD 6700XT GPU to an XFX AMD 7900XTX GPU. I also went from a no-name Chinese 850w PSU to a Corsair RM1000x 1000w PSU, but the fan is constantly running, so that's an issue I'm working on (75-79°F ambient at the tower). With the GPU on HyperX and Adrenaline overclocked, I'm getting over 17k on Cinebench (my Intel i5 12600k is also overclocked at 4.9Ghz P-core/3.7Ghz E-core with 1.26v and XMP-enabled). I'm getting between 60-110 FPS on Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty (2.02 version and Raytracing:Ultra graphics preset at 1080p). The CPU is drawing a max voltage of 187v and the GPU 640v, so the PSU upgrade was needed to prevent Cyberpunk from crashing with the new card. Update Feb 2024: Added an Elgato 4K60 Pro capture card and hooked-up my PS5 so I can stream Playstation games. YouTube channel is slowly growing. Attached File |
