Between a bad work schedual and weather I was unable to run this week, so thought I would go big today. Forgot to charge my watch and it went dead at 6.57mi, so I guessed at what I thought was about 7mi, and turned around. My OCD is pinging right now, so I am going to have to rerun this route soon to double check the distance.

Half marathon day. It was raining when we started and rained off and on throughout the race. Some of it was on brick paved streets so the footing was a little hairy at times. All in all a good race though. 13.09/268.8 View Quote |

It felt good. I fell into a group of folks running a pace I was comfortable with and stuck with them till about mile 6. It really felt good when they started dropping off after that and I was able to maintain my pace. Nobody passed me after mile 9, so that was cool too. I want to up my pace but I am good for now. View Quote I'm looking forward to my half marathon next Saturday, but I have a bit of a niggle in my groin/hip that I'm hoping is gone by then. |

It was a lot better than my first one for sure. I am doing another in May. I hope to shave a little more time off. I wasn't exactly burning the course up. I finished in 2:08. Looking back at my splits I was very consistent. If you take away stops at aid stations and the porta potty once I had a moving time of 2:04. I am hoping to knock that back to 2hr even. Have you tried drinking from those cups on the move before? There's certainly a trick to it. |

You all who listen to music whilst running, what are ya listening to? What helps you keep the tempo? I understand not everyone's tempo is the same, but I need different songs for my workouts.

I know the TomTom Spark has built-in music storage + optical HR. DCRainmaker has a solid review of it. By the way, what watch do you have? View Quote The strap is worn out on my Nike or I would just use it. Is their a wrist worn optical that is worth a shit or should I just get another chest strap unit? I don't think the 235 will pair with a Garmin chest strap. I don't have to have MP3 as I usually don't like to have my ears plugged when running. |
|
[#21]
Looking at the Scosche it should work with my Garmin, and would be preferable to a chest strap, might give it a try.
Right now I am wering both my Garmin and Nike sitting in front of the computer I can have up to a 20 BPM variance. The Garmin seems very slow to react, and shows a higher RHR on average. Gonna wear them both on this afternoons run. |

[#22]
The Scosche or a Garmin HRM would pair just fine to the 235.
Garmin just released a new watch with an updated version of the sensor in the 235, but it's way overkill unless you're at least running ultras or getting into multisport. It also starts at about $600... Other watches with optical HR are pretty comparable to the accuracy of the 235 from what I've read, but none are obviously better and many are worse. How tight are you wearing it? It needs to be pretty snug, especially while running. Arm hair is another thing that could cause this. I know a guy who had your same issue and it went away when he trimmed down the hair on his arm that was directly beneath the sensor. |

After rereading the Garmin instructions, I moved the Garmin up above my wrist bones, and tightened it enough to leave a mark. Wroked much better. I did two miles at 145, two miles at 160, and two more at 145, the two monitors stayed within two BPM of each other the whole time. Operator error I guess. |

Missed yesterday, 3/28/17, but I did move 2 yards of soil with a spade shovel and wrangled two 330 gallon IBC totes for our gardens. We'll call that a whole body workout. |
