I don't usually get in on these threads, but I'll try to contribute to this one when I get some time at a regular computer. My journey started at 150 pounds quite a few years ago, and went as high as 259 pounds.

For the meantime, here's me a couple weeks ago.

6'0", around 220 pounds, 44 years old.

Where does the old man club start?

Here I am at 41, 215 pounds, 6'3".  I think if I lost 15 pounds I would look pretty decent.  Would like to be 225 @15% at age 45.

37, 6'1" and 225.  March of 13 I don't know my lifts at the time, cause obviously I didn't give a shit.  Probably a 24 min 5k and 12-14 dead hang pull-ups at the time.

193.  Apr 14.  Strict calorie counting and half marathon training since jan.  18 deadhangs and 20;30 5K.

39 back up to 202.  March 2015. I'm much stronger than I was last year, and I'm not counting calories, just loosely tracking macros.  25+ dead hangs and 19:45 5k.

I'll keep it short.

Been training consistently for 15 plus years.  I tore my left biceps tendon last year.  Went into surgery strong and fat.  Came out weak and fat.

It's been 9 months since my surgery and I'm down around 40 pounds and sitting at around 8-10% body fat.  Strength is still way off but that's to be expected after losing so much weight whether it was good or bad.  Got off my blood pressure meds and feel way better.  Simply stopped eating so damn much all the time.

I've always been on the heavy side, 5'9 around 220, but when I got engaged, stopped smoking, and settled down I lost all muscle mass and turned into a fat ass.  A few years of that I said enough is enough, so in June 2013 I started busting my ass.  I started doing girly videos with my wife, knocked off about 15lbs and said fuck this, I'm starting lifting again.

My fattest was 275, I got down to 205 in September '14, but now I'm up to 225lbs.  My measurements have barely budged, my wife swears it's muscle mass finally catching up, but I've been fighting to shed the pounds like crazy lately.  My clothing ain't getting any tighter, except in the arms and shoulders  I lift about everyday.

Your goal is very doable.   Do you intentially bulk and then cut to see what muscle you retain?

Here's some pics I took just now. Let's call the weight 250. I posted pics at 275 from almost 6 years ago. I am wearing the same shorts as before, they wanted to fall down.

You can see I still have a lot of work to do. I was kind of surprised how my back looks. I don't normally see my back.

I am amazed at how "soft" I look before I started lifting weights. Big and soft.

Well....that's the plan but I've never actually done the cutting part!   I need to knuckle down and do it and see what I look like.

Glad to hear it's doable.  One other thIng I'm on TRT and I am not opposed or afraid of bumping my dose a time or two a year for a 12 week period or so.

Had to workout in my shop this morning since my wife's car is out of commission at the moment.  She insisted I drive her to work instead of going to the gym .  Took a pic, I'm a quarter way through my bulking cycle (i.e. halfway through my first of two bags of ON Serious Mass).  I'm very close to 180, the heaviest I've ever been in my life.  About 178.  My traps suck, need to be doing some serious shrugs.

Ok, I don't want to overstate things.  Here is a photo taken this morning.  Definitely not a 6 pack, but not that bad for being on the double cheeseburger diet.  It sure as hell beats where I was a year ago though.

You talking to me?

I do squats every week.

Yes.

I didn't say you didn't do squats, I stated you are adding muscle well, I said your legs aren't built for squats.  Long femurs/short tibias, the worst combo out there for squatting.

Before: January of 2014, I think, hadn't been inside a gym in 10+ years.  6'5, about 285.

Couple of weeks ago.  Around 250.  Abs mostly visible at this point, for the first time in a decade or so.

If you are 250 and have abs, you gots lots o' muscle, nice work.

Ok, I don't want to overstate things.  Here is a photo taken this morning.  Definitely not a 6 pack, but not that bad for being on the double cheeseburger diet.  It sure as hell beats where I was a year ago though.

What are you doing at the rest stop with your shirt off?

Actually just the gym bathroom changing my shirt.

LOL, this talk of rest stop bathrooms reminds me of this classic movie scene:

Yeah, I had to change to a wide stance after figuring out that was my problem with squats. Now I am making good progress.

This may be my problem.  I can't squat shit.  I can seriously work my legs out good squatting no more than my body weight as a one rep max.  My femurs are long but so are my tibias.

I have long arms and can't bench press shit, either.  I failed on #150 the other day with a barbell but started moving over to the HS bench press when doing fewer than three reps so I don't need to worry about not having a spotter.

My progress.

No pics...Sorry but arfcom doesn't need to see more photos of a fatty turning into a thin person.

Was at the doctors last night so I got my weight history.

Height: 5'9", body style, somewhere between and endo and meso.

Jan 2013 265lbs 40-42 inch waist, 44-46 chest (basically XXL in everything clothing related, and I also know i ended up weighing more than this, how much I don't know).

Jun 2014 211 lbs probably 34-36 inch waist, 40-42 inch chest

April 2015 185 lbs, 32-33 inch waist, 38 chest

have a lot more muscle mass, and more definition/toning, but am not where I want to be.  I still have some excess fat around the midsection and thighs,  and ultimate goal for weight is 175 and a 30-32 inch waist.  I think the last time I was in this weight range I was probably 18 (47 now).

I tried a dozen different combos and this is what I settled on as well. A wider stance helped immensely with m ability to get depth and good solid drive up.

And shoes.

6'2, my weight is 179 as of today.  I'm eating, snorting and mainlining ON Serious Mass so I hope to be at 190 in the next month.

Kind of off-topic but...
I have been debating switching up my diet and trying hard to eat 200 grams of protein per day. Currently probably getting 100-150 per day.

My biggest problem right now is I get extremely hungry about 5 PM and about 10 PM.  Thinking about doing this with a couple 25g protein shakes. Protein can get expensive, and cheap stuff probably isn't that great for you.

Thoughts?

I went through a period of time where I was drinking a lot of protein shakes to try to get to at least 250 or more grams per day.  And I wasn't really getting anywhere with it.  Then when I just started eating a lot of real food - good (i.e., dirty)  stuff since you have to want to eat it - I gained like 12 + pounds in 6 weeks or so.  I guess everybody has a different body type and metabolism, but I discovered that I have to eat like a fatty to gain weight.  But since I was lifting, etc., instead of just getting fat I was getting stronger with the extra pounds.  I can only eat so many chicken breasts and sweet potatoes.  It just doesn't fuel my appetite.  Now, greasy cheeseburgers, sausage biscuits and bags of jelly beans, they make me a ravenous lunatic who can't get enough.  Depends on your goals I guess.  I think any real food, especially if it had parents, is better than liquid protein.

ETA: I'm drinking a zero carb Isopure right now (pre-bottled), blue raspberry.  40 grams of protein.  I do love those.  But they're not cheap.  I get them when I find them like 2 for 1 at GNC.

Milk, peanut butter and protein powder, pretty easy to get protein that way. Lots of calories though.

Protein powder is about as cheap as you can get.  If you must have food that is cheap, eat half a can of black beans at 5 and 10.

I love me some black beans, but they tend to make me gassy and bloated. I hear rinsing them thoroughly in cold water out of the can is a good thing to help that.  I need to come up with some sort of "sauce" to go with them that is carb-free.
Sorry for thread hijack.

I add a can of rotel to the beans, heat it for 1 min in the microwave and then I'm good to go.

Yes on the gas though, but I don't mind my own farts!

Besides, black beans are weak in comparison to the probiotic yogurt I eat daily in regards to that.

At my heaviest, I weighed 264lbs at 5'10" with a 40" waist. Now I'm 183lbs and I'm about to have to buy new pants with a 30" waist. When I started really working out again in early 2014, I could do 3 pull-ups. Now I can do 20 fairly consistently. I've had to reset on weights, several times due to injuries, illnesses, and being a lazy ass, but I'm fairly happy with how I've progressed.

I just realized I never updated with pics.

I don't have any pics of me at 264. This was Jan 2012 at around 235.

This is last month around 185.

November 18th, 199 lbs.  this past Monday I was at 163, and hit the same Wednesday. First goal was 20 lbs until I stepped on the scale and saw my starting weight. (I thought I'd be ~190.). It turned to 30 right then and I got to work.

After I hit that I decided to go for 10 more. I'm 4 lbs away and cruising. Deficit diet doesn't bother me anymore. I eat good, I just eat clean.

Once I hit 159 I'll reassess... I may go for 155.  I wouldn't mind being 33 years old and cut.

I've cut all shit (fast and fried) food from my diet, all soda, and cut my drinking from every night to once a week/every two weeks. I'll admit that was the hardest part but now that it's gone I don't really miss it.  Pasta was another tough blow but that and most bread and sandwiches went out too. This is only the tip of the iceberg of what I don't eat anymore, but it really is amazing when you realize how calorie rich so much of the foods you used to eat are.

Along with the diet I've hit the gym. 4 days per week, practice or a match every weekend. 1/3 is cardio and the rest is lifting. I've missed one day this whole time due to vacation.

In all, I feel great. I watched my uspsa vids from last year and compared them to this year. I Look like greased lightning moving around out there compared to my old self, and don't have the belly hanging over my belt.

It's cool when you get comfortable with the appropriate caloric intake. My goal is to lose 1lb/week and I usually have to eat a bunch of stuff after supper just to hit my target now. Very rarely do I get hungry, but the weight keeps coming off.

This, and I've learned so much in the process. Started with cutting the crap food. Then started counting on a note app, then moved to MFP and logging everything. Macros, deficits, micros, nutrition, rest, recovery...all that important stuff you didn't think about before I now pay attention to. I've even gotten a few compliments from my wife on the tips I've given her about regular eating and keeping yourself fueled for activity....she doesn't need to lose weight at all, but she had a tendency to skip meals if she got too busy and felt like crap because of it.

Frank's Red Hot Sauce, Cholula, Tabasco...  I personally think the Chipotle Tabasco sauce is the greatest thing ever made.

Check the label on the various Siracha sauces.  I don't think the regular Siracha is carb free.
