So any credence to doing a casein shake before bed to help with muscle growth and recovery?

Casein before bed.

Provides anticatabolic environment.

Whey after a workout.

Absorbed quicker and provides for protein synthesis.

That's what I've read elsewhere... However, to be honest this site is the only one I really trust. Lots of BS out there.

Make sure that the rest of your deit is in check before I would worry too much about whey vs casein.

1 part powder + 1.25 parts milk.

Slowly whisk for 60 seconds.

Put in the fridge for about 20 minutes.

I put a dollup of whipped cream on top.

Nice dessert.

Good luck, casein is nasty stuff, I had a hell of a time getting it to blend with anything when I first tried it. That was about 6 years ago, but I haven't forgotten how much I hate it.

I use whey after a workout or a hard pour (at work) now, and try to eat more dairy.

I'm pretty sure I have about 4 lbs sitting in my chest freezer downstairs, for right now all it's good for to me is SHTF food.

What is your daily protein goal? I've found I can reach mine easily with just a little extra dairy and chicken.

look up "protien sludge" tons of ways to make it.  If you put it in the microwave you can make a brownie.

How much do you weigh?

As said above, get the rest of your diet inline first. Honestly I don't even worry about this stuff anymore. Half the time I don't even have a shake after I lift.

Weight this morning was 272, but my waistline is down to a 38 from 42 a month ago.

Gtg, just wondering why protein intake was so high. Honestly, IMO you'd probably be fine with less than 240, 200 is likely sufficient.

Bought ON's Vanilla Casein powder today.

Just "drank" it with crushed ice, 12oz milk and two tablespoons of real peanut butter. Holy shit, where has this been my whole life.

I use milk and make it a little thicker before microwaving it. I also add walnuts to it and sometimes peanut butter to the top.

Mix a tub with No-Sugar added Jello in whatever flavor you like.

I hate cottage cheese and I haven't eaten it in a long time.  My 4 year old loves it.

To answer your original question, I workout late in the evening so my post workout shake is around 10:00.  The feeding before bed is mostly a myth and helps if you're already not getting enough calories.  Without seeing your daily diet and macros it's hard to say.

I made a brownie with whey protein today. Am I gonna die?

The heat doesn't effect the protein itself does it?

I put 2 tablespoons of the real deal PB from myprotein.com in with 50 grams of cookies and cream and threw in 10gr of creatine.

Microwaved for 1.5 minutes. Boom, cake.

As a general rule, heat does denature protein molecules. I have no idea if whey is especially susceptible. But denatured protein is still protein, just not quite as ideal.
