I didn't realize that one had a name.

Damn.

In honor of USAF SSgt Timothy P. Davis, 28, who was killed on Feburary, 20 2009 supporting operations in OEF when his vehicle was struck by an IED. Timothy is survived by his wife Megan and one-year old son T.J.

Everyone ought to do deficit deadlifts to feel what it's like to lift shit off the ground when you're 6'5.    3 reps at 435?  I hope to get there soon.  I'm doing the festivus competition coming up where you have to do a 5 rep max DL, keeping your hands on the bar.  I really would like to hit 400 on that, but probably not.

We had a guy the was taller than that attend our powerlifting comp in February, he deadlifted 550+...the weight just kept going up...and up....and up... My last 5 rep was 420. I have been stuck at 455 on a 1 rep for a while, I need to start attending our weightlifting class. While my max isn't super high, I consider myself good ad deadlifting. No letting go of the bar, and always touch and go.

We had an African guy training for college basketball in our class this summer.  He was 6'10.  He was deadlifting around 400.  Looked like a crane.  I asked how he lifts that much weight being so tall.  He said "I do for long time since child."

I didn't do a wod today, but I did do 3 sets of 15 on the 50 pound slam ball.  It gave me an idea for a wod I'm going to name "Hulk"  After every set of slam ball, sprint 200 meters carrying the slam ball.  So here's the one from Friday, which about killed me.

3 Rounds:

400 meter run

200 meter farmer's carry with 70 pound KB each hand

Then:

40 deadlifts at 255

30:02 (that is not a typo, it took me a half an hour)

Then

2 Power Cleans (155)

20 DU

4 Power Cleans (155)

20 DU

6 Power Cleans (155)

You get the gist. As much as you can get done inside of 10 minutes. I got 115

4 Rounds for time (was supposed to be 5, but I ran short on time):

30 DUs

15 Bar facing burpees

6 hang snatches (full) at 115#

The competition I have coming up has a wod with 50 bar facing burpees, to be knocked out in a row.  I think I'm going with a slow and steady strategy with no rests.  I really hate them.

Did a fun partner workout today.

15 min AMRAP

7 Pullups
7 Burpees
7 Hang Power Clean @ 135

Partner 1 completes round 1, partner two rests during round 1. Partner 2 completes round 2, partner 1 rests during round 2. Alternate that way.

There were just a few of us doing an unofficial workout, not sure if other teams counted or not. Partner and I got 11 rnds + 14 reps

I did "Helen" today.  I'm sure most of you here have smoked me on this.  Though to my credit, the 400 meters was on an off-road track with an uphill portion and uneven ground.

3 Rounds for time:

400 meter run

21 KB swings at 53 #

12 strict pull ups

14:33

My wife beat me by about a minute and a half, and a couple of other guys did it in 9 something.  Next time, I'll sprint the running portion rather than pacing myself.

ETA: Also, I'm not sure if "Helen" is usually strict pullups or not.  If I had been able to kip them I could have really lowered my time.

Not this past Saturday, but the Saturday before that we did a team wod with 20 people that absolutely sucked.  This was sure as hell wasn't fun:

Teams of 2 for time of:

60-40-20

Thrusters  115/75#

C2B pull-ups

400m med ball run w/ only 1 ball per team

My time:  DNF  Tore open a very large callous on my right hand on the last set up pullups.  Blood was spilled.  Also, my partner, who happened to be my wife, had a bad attitude.  And we were losing.

Did one partner run while the other did the movements? Either way, that looks like it sucked. Thrusters are horrible.

Each partner had to do equal movements.  So, in the first 60 thrusters, each had to do 30.  But you could mix it up, like 10, then the other does 10, and so on.  That is what we did.  Other teams apparently knocked out like 30, then the other did 30.  Same with the pull-ups.  On the run, you both had to run at the same time, but since there was only one ball, you could share the ball any way you wanted.  You could pass it back and forth, or one person could technically carry it the entire time.  One partner couldn't run while the other did the movements, to answer your question.

I'm not sure about whether one person could do pull-ups while the other did thrusters, and then switch, in lieu of waiting.  I suspect some of the faster groups were doing that.  But we were dying already with the short rest periods.  So, homey wasn't going to play that anyways.

For time:

1000 meter row

100 wall balls at 20#

10:37

I set the row machine damper at 5 just to experiment.  I didn't like it compared to my usual 10 position.  But overall, I could have saved more time speeding up the wall balls.

I hear you on the 2:1 singles.  I just can't get DUs consistently.  I have 18 days to get them down before a competition which will probably include DUs.     Practiced them last night and whipped the shit out of my right arm, which it turns out after having my wife critique me, is probably due to my right wrist being higher than my left.  I'll be practicing them tonight again.  Worked on them this morning as well.

2:1??  We get a 3:1 penalty for not being able to DU, and I haven't been able to string more than one DU and then smack the next rotation, so I'm currently destined to be in this 3:1 penalty box until I sort it out.

I've had it both ways, depending on the wod.  But the way I usually do it is to do 1 DU, and then 2 singles, continuously.  Then if the wod calls for 25 double unders, I count only the DUs, to 25.  So you get penalized and practice your DUs.

Did Elizabeth yesterday. Two years ago I did the arfcom weightloss challenge and got to the leanest level I have ever been. I have gained a good 30 pounds since then (working on it again). I was 3:20 SLOWER than almost exactly 2 years ago at the end of that challenge. My power cleans were still very fast (if not faster), but my ring dips fell apart fast.

Had a friendly partner WOD competition at the beach the other day with another gym...some lunges, TGU, burpees, etc...My partner and I actually won the RX division which is kinda sad considering my current level of conditioning lol.

Thinking of doing Nancy today (5 rounds 400m and 15 OHS @ 95#) but certainly won't be breaking my PR....this will also be my second CF workout in like 6 weeks

Ok, my wife and I busted our asses this morning, and ran through all of the wods for an upcoming competition.  I anticipate that we will have at least 45 minutes to an hour in between wods at the competition, but we went through this this morning with only 15 minute breaks.

WOD 1:

2,000 meter row for time

7:12

WOD 2:

10 minute AMRAP

50 bar over burpees (was bar facing, they just changed it yesterday)

30 squats at 95#

10 T2B

1 round and 30 burpees (probably could have done 33 but I puked a little in my mouth with 10 seconds left  )

WOD 3:

6 minutes for 5 rep max deadlift (rules are to maintain your grip, have to touch and go at the bottom for 5 continuous reps, but can rest at the lockout)

325#

6 minutes just isn't enough time for me.  I also forgot to change into my Chucks.  I wonder if they would allow barefoot?  I also am hoping that I will be recovered a little more by the time I get to wod 3 at the competition.

That's plenty of time to work up to a 5RM. What kind of warm up sets are you doing?

Hell if I know, it's the first time I've ever tried it in 6 minutes.  Usually when I DL, I'll do 135 a few times, then go up to 225 for my first set, then go pretty slowly from there.  I've never tried crunching the time like that.  This morning, I started with 135 pounds on, did that, put 225 on, did that for 5 reps, then 275 for 5 reps, then went 325 for 5 reps.  I wasn't dying or anything, so I then threw on another 30 pounds and went for 355.  At this point I had slightly under a minute left.  Went for the first pull, and it wasn't happening.

What do you do to work up in that amount of time?

Ok, when you're under a time crunch like that IMO you do 3 attempts. Remember you're already warm right?

First, was there absolutely any chance you were going to miss 275? No probably not. Start there. Why even try 135 and 225? You know you can go heavier and you just ate up a bunch of time, and also wasted energy.

Open with something you KNOW you can hit, but is heavy. This is to ensure you get a lift in the books in case you massively fuck up your follow on attempts.
Second attempt is something you're fairly certain you can hit.
Third attempt is something you realistically COULD hit, but may miss.

In your case I would have opened at 275, then hit 325 then gone to 345 or 355. You may have hit that if you hadn't fucked around in the beginning

I failed at my strategery.    I appreciate the advice.  I'll have a few more attempts at this before the competition.  I think I'll do just as you say and report back.  I need to hit 355.  I also wanted to experiment with shoes.  I'm still undecided.  I do best barefoot, but I'm unsure of whether they allow it.  I'm assuming they don't.  So, I have a choice of Chucks, Vans (both about the same as far as the sole goes), oly shoes, and my inov-8 F-lite 240s (which have about a 6mm heel).  What would you go with (I used the inov-8s this morning)?
