20" is good all around length.

I would go in the 22-24" length. Not overly long and a little more velocity in the AR platform.

20" is a really great all around length for 6.5. You will have no problems with 1,000 with this rifle. |

Frank doing it with 18 inches.
I have two (2) 6.5mm 1:8 30" 1.25" Straight Contour Bartlein Blanks getting mated to ARMALITE AR-10 barrel extensions w/0.002" bolt space gap per matched head spaced bolt for 24" of goodness. |

Being able to do it and doing it with better ballistics are two different things. Jerry Miculek shot 1000 yards with a 9mm. Doesn't make it ideal for a 1000 yards.

I can't speak to this caliber but I do know that if I was building a .308 with the intended purpose of 600-1000 versus an "all around gun" I'd definitely go 22-24" in a bolt gun and 20-22" in gasser....erroring towards the longer barrel for both platforms.
I'd go 22" OP. |

Minumum of 20" but also, make sure you go with the extended gas system. Rifle length can bring headaches.

Does anyone have rough velocity #'s for a 20" barrel using factory hornady 140's?
Got a 20" barrel coming for the rpr and wanted to mess around with potential ballistics in strelok. |

I'd guess that you'll be around 2600-2650 if the American gunner runs close to the 140eld-m and your barrel isn't overly fast. I'm around 2630 from a 22", but I wasn't using the best chrono the day that I tested. |
