Should I buy one of these or a ruger precision rifle?  I'm just wanting something to punch paper/ring steel.

I have put some rounds through the RPR, the Ruger American Predator 6.5C, and a friends CTR in 308 as well as my personal Tikka in .243. In my opinion, the Tikka is a better made rifle and a hell of a value.

Don't get me wrong, you get a lot of rifle with the RPR. After shooting and handling them though, the Tikka barreled actions and triggers are just nicer. Not to mention the CTR comes with a very nice DBM and TRG mags.

I got in on this deal. My order was placed on April 2nd. I just received a tracking number today,  April 6th.

I sure hope this rifle shoots better consistently than the Savage 10T that I HAD...

Good question

I shot the rpr, tikka, r700, and the savage before deciding.

The tikka is the best out of the box option if you are just going to add a
Scope.

That said I ended up with the rpr for the following reasons:
- easily customizable.
- easy barrel swaps for the future
- aics / pmag comparability. The tikka mags are expensive. By the time I'd buy 3-4 of them the cost advantage on the rpr is lost.
- looks good with paint

That said I'd like to get a .308 tikka in the coming months to have a second bolt gun for friends/family to enjoy at the range.

Having used both I personally think the tikka is nicer. I like the short and smooth bolt throw and trigger on the tikka. Ruger is cool that it  uses common mags but I put all my tikkas in a KRG or manners so they take AICS mags anyways.

Got mine as well.   Now, if "Bud's" would get off their ass and ship me the 6.5mm that I ordered last week, that would be cool.

I think using the patches and a brush is appropriate, if you follow the theory of cleaning a barrel initially and breaking it in. You're trying to use the firing to wear down the machining burrs on the throat/lands and clean out any debris so you're not depositing layers on top of it to start with.

Not sure I believe it but I'll probably do it anyway.

They ran out after the OP, then when I bumped it they got a few more in and kept the same price. Based upon that I would think they'll restock them fairly soon (took ~2 weeks).

I received one of the 'few more';  ordered the XLR Element.   So,  I have that going for me.  Which is nice.

Same. Regret buying the twenty even though I haven't finished working loads for it, and demand is basically zero now since everyone wants a 24.

I'm a huge fan of tikka but we got hosed on this one.

Wish they'd have started with the 24 and introduced the 20 later for the few that want the shorter barrel

I just found these in stock here for $995.82 shipped

TIKKA T3X CTR STAINLESS / BLACK 6.5 CREEDMOR 24-IN 10 ROUNDS

and $904.79 shipped

BERETTA TIKKA T3X CTR BLACK SYNTHETIC 6.5 CREEDMOOR 24 INCH

I called them, They have 2 stainless left and 1 blued.

I grabbed one of the 24" stainless ones....lol not in the toy budget but I have not seen the 24" stainless at all and that is a great price. Euro optics sometimes has them, but they are always pricey. From my google-fu, these are the only others in stock anywhere.

Don't read any reviews if your on the fence.. lol everyone loves theirs. This is my first Tikka. But I've shot a few and they have been lights out. As far as hunting, I do plan on hunting some with mine, but I also shoot LR steel pretty often, so I got the 24" CTR. But if its just a hunting rifle you want, I would look at the Tikka Lite. Those are also tack drivers.

Doesn't the CTR have a threaded muzzle and come in stainless?

Just checked, and it does, here is a 2p inch stainless 6.5 creedmoor https://shop.whittakerguns.com/product/ss-4762845

Annoying that they only make the magnums in stainless. Make it in 308 and I'd jump on it. Lightweight magnums dont seem to be for me.

Finally took mine out to the range, shot .5 moa with Prime ammunition from the first group onward.  My buddy shot just under half .moa, with one ragged hole, this gun is simply amazing.  This has been the most satisfying gun purchase I've ever made!  Thank you again to those of you who have recommended it!  Now that the excitement is over, the real question is whether or not I should even bother working up a load for this rifle when the Prime ammo shoots so well.  What a problem to have lol.

I'm going to finally have time to take mine out tomorrow if it's not raining. I have a box of Hornady 140 gr eld-m and a box of 143 gr eld-x to try out. Going to load up some 120 gr barnes ttsx tonight and see what they can do. I'll post an update tomorrow.

Finally got to take the rifle out and shoot it. The tikka seems to like Hornady's 140 gr factory eld-m ammo. I did 4 shot groups at 100 yards. This was my best group.

Mine shots well with the 140 ELD-M also. Thats all I've shot in it so far. Whidden dies, Berger bullets, and Lapua brass get here this week though.

I shot 12 rounds of the 143 gr eld-x and couldn't get better than 1.5 moa. It got too windy before I could try the 120 gr barnes ttsx I have loaded up.

I've tried each of the flavors of the hornady 6.5 ammo and the velocitys, ES, etc were all over the place. Ugly compared to GMM in 308. My first batch of handloads just for ladder / ocw testing blew it away. The 120 shot the best, but it still wasn't as consistent as the worst hand load and I expect it'll open up past 100

What's the deal with the bubble leveler? I'm new to precision shooting and always wondered why people have that on their scopes. I need to get some match projectiles and load up some rounds to test.

Because I shoot a lot of side hill, uneven surfaces the bubble stops me from canting.

You absolutely will not regret switching to the Tikka platform. They really are well made, accurate rifles that have plenty of aftermarket support.

I like the Sako mags and I have several extras that I got for my TRG-22. I'm not sure whether or not I am going with a KRG chassis or Manners stock with CTR bottom metal so the mags will depend on that.
