Just a heads up for anybody looking for one. This is the best price I have seen on them to date, and they still have 3 in stock at time of this post. $819.99 Tikka T3x 6.5 Creed 24" Brl. I bought one and it shipped within two hours.

Yeah they list the SS model for $899 as well but it's out of stock. I bought a 20" a few months ago unaware the 24" was coming and wished I had waited.

I wish i would of waited for the 24'' also. Wonder what speeds the 24'' is getting over the 20''? I am 2650 with Prime 130's.

Why don't they offer the 260 in 24"? I just bought a t3x last week and I'm somewhat wishing I'd of held out for this 24". My main reason for going with the 260 is I ordered a Larue PredatOBR in 260 as well. I'm all for keeping my reloading specific calibers to a minimum.

Well, hopefully I will be able to tell you pretty soon. I bought two of the 24" barreled CTRs in 6.5 Creed, one I will be keeping, and another we are using to put together a long range rig to donate to a very deserving wounded Veteran. I ordered a case of 130gr Prime along with a couple flavors of Hornady as well. I will try to report back with load performance from the 24" CTR.

They are local to me. They are about ready to move into a new building that is about 3X larger

Well dam i couldn't resist and just ordered a 24''. It doesn't look like a huge gain but about 40'' of drop at 1,000 and some help with the wind. Looks like i will have my 20'' up for sale soon.

I can't figure out how their site works. I get an error when trying to add a rifle to the cart after the price has been emailed to me.

Just bought the 20" and I knew about the 24".  Don't care, 20 is going to be fine and handy.

Prime ammo speeds. 20'' 2675 avg   24'' 2835 avg so i saw a 160 fps difference.  The 20'' has 80 rounds through it, the 24'' has 20 rounds through it so it might speed up some.

Are these barrels heavy enough for extended shooting for f class

I'm debating on getting one. If I didn't have a Ruger American predator in 6.5 creedmoor already I'd jump on this deal.

I agree but the ruger is the perfect beater gun for hunting. I won't feel bad if I dropped it or it gets all muddy. I'm currently working up a load for it since it's my dedicated suppressor host right now and it's my all around hunting rifle.

Did you follow a break in method or just shot it? I've never broken in a barrel before and don't know if I should or not. I've always just shot it.

That's what I've always done, just shoot it and clean really good after the first range trip. I'm taking my new ctr 260 to the range tomorrow and plan to run 40 rounds through it.

I wish I would've waited to pick up this 6.5 24". I may get one eventually but that would be a month or few down the road.

How was getting the scope base off?
Link Posted: 4/2/2017 7:08:47 AM EDT
[#35]
The base was easy after applying a little heat. The glue residue was a real pain for me. I tried acetone and goof off and it wouldn't touch it. I had to use a dremel and a steel brush.

Uggh. I wish Tikka would get with the program on the scope bases. As it sits, I am using ADM 20MOA SL mounts which is an unnecessary weight and expense.

Would you guys recommend cleaning the barrel with a bore snake or just stick to patches for the initial cleaning before shooting the rifle?

I only use bore snakes if I have to clean the barrel away from home. If you get dirt, water, etc... in the barrel a bore snake is a handy tool for a quick cleaning. They are no a subsitiute for actual cleaning though. Any new barrel I get is cleaned with a rod and patches before it gets shot.

I like the CTR mags better than the AICS magazines though. But ya, they be expensive!
Link Posted: 4/3/2017 3:54:59 PM EDT

No they aren't cheap but they allow for a longer COAL and smaller size than a 10rd AICS mag. You don't need 10 for each rifle. 4-6 magazines is plenty for a bolt gun, most could get by with just one or two.

I ordered on Saturday and nothing yet besides the order confirmation email. It says they take up to 2 business days before they ship and they were closed on Monday.
