How would you do it?  What kind of tip on your arrow?  Where do you aim?

I know how to take a turkey with a shotgun, aim for the head with a tight choke, but how do you do it with an arrow/bolt?

I saw a stampede of turkeys yesterday while I was in my treestand.  I say stampede because there were about sixteen of them charging right at my position. (Funny birds. )  Despite not having a turkey permit, I still wondered whether I would be capable of taking one with my crossbow which I had set up for deer(180#, 20" bolt, mechanical broadhead, 420gr.)  They eventually became single file broadside to me within 20 yards, and I am confident I could have made a body shot, but not so sure that a mechanical broadhead and/or body shot are the best way to take a turkey.

I hit a tom at 32 yards last year with a 100 gr. G5 Striker broadhead at low center of the back as it was facing away.   Arrow went right through it.  It flapped around for about 10-15 seconds before it did the death quiver.  Their vitals are low on the body (google search will show some good diagrams).  For example, if a gobbler is walking away with his tail fanned out, you shoot him right in the butthole and this will put the arrow through the vitals.

They also make guillotine heads for turkeys with the idea of chopping off their head, but I could imagine those are hard to shoot straight since the blades are like 3" long.

They don't bleed much, so if it doesn't die within sight, you'll have a hard time finding it.

I took this hen with my longbow Saturday, I use cedar arrows tipped with a two blade 190 grain El Grande Grizzly broadhead.
The shot was 12 yards from a makeshift ground blind, the flock dropped down from a ridge into the food plot I was deer hunting, the bird walked about six feet and dropped over dead, center to low center broadside shot.

You don't want to hit the wing butt...

Follow the legs up to just about where the bronze band is on the wing.  It will take out the hips and be the best shot for a broadside shot.

See where the green spot is on the side of this bird?  That's my arrow entering...about perfect for shot location.  I'm sitting about 3' to the left of this camera position.

Hit 'em high, watch 'em die. Hit 'em low, watch 'em go.

I have taken two w/ the bow. Both with normal deer set ups. 85gr. Grim Reaper.

First one was from a tree at 35ys while she was walking. Hub of the wheel at the wings. Didn't hit breast meat.

Second one was from a ground blind at 18yds. He was facing me at the release. I aimed just above the beard and let it go.
The bird ran off and I recovered him 50 yds from there. The arrow had entered his back and was sticking out just above and to the side of his beard.
