Sorry, no AR's for me when it comes to hogs. We have some pretty damn big ones where I live(300 lbs+ is not unusual) and I am not going to trust a 5.56mm round to stop them, For hogs, deer, etc I use a Remington 700 BDL in .30-06 long action that has been accurized quite a bit. A B&C composite stock, with the bed glassed and the barrel floated. The trigger has been adjusted to 2 pounds and the rifle sits on a Harris bipod. For glass I use a Pentax 6-24x Lightseeker scope with a mil dot reticle and target knobs. I use Sierra150 grain Matchking hollow point boat tail match bullets in my hand loads. With the rifle supported only on the bipod, I can routinely shoot 3 round groups at 100 yds you can cover with a dime. Only a handful of times in over 20 years have I ever had to put a second round in the hog. Most times they drop right where they are hit.

I usually catch a bit of ribbing for it but most hunts all I carry my M1 Garand and my .45 on my hip. Honestly, out to 200 yards why do you need glass on the rifle? Acquisition with iron sights is a lot easier and quicker than a scope anyway

Um, you kinda...well...you sorta...dude, your front sight...it's alone.  Poor little thing sitting out there on the rail all by it's lonesome.

Shhh...dont tell it that!
Yeah its on there because I pop my carry handle on for iron sights, scope goes on for hunting or whatever. they both return to zero but I don't think my front will if I were to take it off too.

I ran my 16" AR10 T for this weeks TX hog hunt.  JP adjustable gas block, 762SD, and a trijicon 1-4.  Devastates the pigs.  I took 5 in one day with it.  2 at 100yrds, 1 at 150 yrds, and 1 at 40 yrds.  One of the 100's and the 150 were running when I dropped them.  165gr hornady BTSP.

Old bolt-action hog gun:

New improved hog gun:

Optic (borrowed off my .308 bolt chunk; the SPR will eventually wear a 2.5-10 Vortex if they ever come back in stock) and PVS-14 are both set a bit further back; I got regular rings as the PEPR wouldn't span the upper and MCSR; the rail isn't continuous between the two.  Heading probably later this week for load development, and will be in TX smackin 'em down later in October.
