My first.  230 yards out, almost dark when shot, resting the rifle on a fence post...

Got the first ground hog of the year. A small male was out near our garden getting too close to the tomato plants that are starting to bear fruit. 40 yards in the back of the head. CZ 452 with Tac-65 can shooting Gemtech 42 grain subs.

This turd is leaving the implement building and going straight into the beans and squash in the garden. So far, he's got about 10-15 plants :( I'm hoping to stake him out this weekend and take him out.

ETA: Got a little chuckling in a Have a Heart trap in that building the next day, he was happily munching on peaches and grape jelly when the dog and I walked in. Still waiting on getting the big one in the picture.

Got a late season groundhog out near the gardens. I caught this guy this morning eating the leftover blueberries and tomatoes. I took an initial shot with an AR but think I hit low (zeroed at 36 yards and the shot would have been ~4 inches high at 70 yards). Saw him walking about slowly 2 hours later and got him with the 17HMR. From his injuries I'd say the first shot ripped through the ground under him and took out his left front leg which would explain him moving so slow.

We still have a few more running around but not enough land to chase them.

One of these days I'll set some dirt hole sets and see what turns up.

The price is coming down, but thermal is what you seek.    I have a thermal security camera on the side of my 10 acre parcel.  I can sit and drink whiskey while watching hockey and watch the camera on my tablet.  As soon as I see some White, aka bad guys, I grab my rifle which also has thermal.  Those "Bad guys" cant hide from them shits.  Works like magic.

This was a couple years ago but the sample process applied.  Hockey game on TV, whiskey, thermal security camera (oh hey look at that "bad guy"), thermal rifle, line it up and sling vmax.  I dont have more recent vids other than a hog hunt because the IR hunter is kind of Cuckish when it comes to recording video.  I've zapped so many dogs with the thermal over the last two years it's not even funny.

I know the pst233 is and the pulsars aren't that pricey but I still can't justify a 2k price tag.

I know.  But like I said the competition is driving them down.  The Pulsar and PTS do ONBOARD video.  A NICE feature.

ETA: Keep doing what you're doing.  Its harder than what Im doing, props brother!

Thanks.

That's only my second coyote. I've also called a grey fox, a bobcat and a racoon. It's steep learning curve.

Shot while deer hunting. Marlin 336y 170gr. Core-lokt. Around 35-40 yards or so.
This was the second one I saw but wasn't quick enough to get that one.  Entrance was through the shoulder on the opposite side.

Had a few chances before, couple misses, etc., but this one is my first 100% called-in coyote.  My buddy and I have been trying to get better at predator hunting since last winter, it has been a blast.... and really humbling :)   Today, it all came together.  This one was called in on hand calls, pup distress and howls.

Firs groundhog of the season is down and sadly, it wasn't by me. Our Anatolian pup (1.5 years old now) caught this one making a tunnel under our goat barn. Small male but her first. I just hope she leaves some for me to shoot this year!

I live in the city but a river greenbelt runs behind the next street over.  Groundhogs routinely live under my neighbors front porch and come out to decimate my flowers.  When I told the previous owner his response was: "I'll tell my dad".  This was a 35 - 40 year old married man with a wife and two kids still relying on daddy to solve his problems.  This year I got new neighbors, both humans and groundhogs.  I offered the man a one day turnkey solution for his problem: my trap and experience.  He waited a week or so and then I saw a havahart trap in the middle of his front yard with a blankey inside.

Apparently the neighbors decided to move closer to their food source and set up house under my raised woodpile.  I got these two using an Oneida Victor trap and CCI Quiet22.

Pic was in the day but they were taken at night, doubled. The closest I have shot a coyote at night since Jan is 150 yards. Most shots between 250 & 500 yards.

I like them. I’m probably going to sell my buddy my foxpro and get one of the newer units with the mfk sounds preloaded. Tony Tebbe has some good sounds as well.

I have everything finally boxed up. Should have you a package out tomorrow btw.

MFK actually has some biological type videos out now on youtube on coyote life cycles that are pretty good.

Hell ya. I owe you big time.

I'd have to get a new unit to get anymore of their sounds. Stupid icotech charged their file format right after I bought mine and the mfk guys switched to foxpro. I dont even think I can get icotech sounds in the format I need.

You could always keep it for down the road and play 2 callers spaced apart like one howling at the other.

First city groundhog of the year.  More to come I'm sure. Four last year.  Five the year before.  I'd like to throw it over the fence into my neighbor's yard where they live under their front porch but I won't.
