How many rounds do you take with you when going out to hunt?
I carry my rifle magazine fully load (3 to 6 rounds) plus 5 rounds in my pocket or backpack.
My sidearm is loaded with 5 rounds (2 snake shots plus 3 SWC rounds) plus 2 snake shots and 4 SWC rounds in a ammo pouch.

If I am carrying an AR15A2 Carbine it will have has a full 30 rounder in it plus an extra 30 round mag for just in case.   If I’m using my LR308A2 Carbine that is probably what I will be carrying it will have a full 20 round box and two extra 20 rounder’s in my bag.    Hand gun (sig P220-45 three ten round mags.   It’s not just the four legged critters you got to be worried about, but the two legged.

I have never needed them but if when I take my .308 RRA I take 5 twenty round mags.  If I take my .300 BLK I take 5 thirty round mags.  That sounds like a lot but there are times in the area I live in and hunt in when you can find yourself surrounded by illegals and drug runners.

I usually take a box of ammo for the rifle ( 20 rounds) and my Glock 17 with two magazines. The sidearm is mostly for people, as are the extra rifle rounds. I have been carrying at least that much ammo for years, never have shot a deer more that twice.

Not too different from the OP.  I had 5 30-06 cartridges in the rifle.  5 more in a leather ammo wallet in an outside pocket; and 6 rounds of 357 Magnum in the revolver underneath my jacket.  In 35 years of centerfire rifle hunting this was all I ever needed.  Shotgun was a different story, though.  Other than 10 or 12 slugs or 00 buckshot  I often needed, at least, an entire box of 25 shells.

5 rounds in the hog hunter, 6 on the stock pouch. Pistol with 17 rounds.

i'll be going out this year with 5 in the PU sniper + 5 extra in a pocket or a fully loaded 20 rounder with HST for my AR-9 either with an M&P fully loaded with HST on my side

Depends...but for the most part 10 rounds of 30-06 for deer hunting...all in a holder on my stock for easy access.

I've never needed more than 4...and there were three deer dead on that trip.  Damn that was a lot of work.

I take 10 assuming 7 to stay alive and 3 to call for help if needed...

I also have my G30...but I don't take any reloads for that...just the stock 10rd mag.

Half dozen or so. Don't think I've ever used more than 3-4 rounds at a sit.

My remaining 700 holds 4 in the mag 1 in the chamber.  My side arm holds 10 and 1.  The most I have used at 1 time was 2 from the rifle, 2 deer and 1 from my 45.  A coyote walked under my stand all withing 10 min.  It was a good day.

Depends on what I am using. Where I hunt there is 0 chance of me getting lost so I don't need extra rounds to call for help.

.30-06 Remington 7400 I have 2 mags so 8 rounds total
.270 Rem 7600 Pump I have 2 mags so 8 rounds total
.243 Savage 4 in the gun and 4 more in my pocket
30-30 marlin 5 in the gun and 4 or 5 in my pocket

I carry extra ammo for bad situations, have had squatters on the land before.

Ar- 20 round mag in rifle with two 30 round mags with M193
9mm or 1911 as sidearm and extra mag

I carry the extra mags in my backpack. Better to have and not need to need and not have IMO.

gun fully loaded, 8-10 reloads on me and a full box in my backpack. the reason for the box is that most of the guys in camp shoot the same caliber.

Usually only 4 rds in the .270 and maybe another 5 in the pocket. If I fail to get a deer with that much ammo, I don't belong in the woods.
The shield with an 8 rd mag in the backpack.

10 - 15 for whatever rifle (or if any AR, one 20 rnd mag) and what ever is on my hip w/2 reloads.

For the 6.5 Swede bolt gun, four in the box and one in the pipe plus five more in my pack and a full box back at camp.
For the .300 Blackout, fifteen in the mag and the full box at camp.
The place I hunt is nearly all on the side of two big hills with fields at the top and bottom and heavy timber. During the course of a day of hunting I'll probably walk those two hills ten or fifteen times and the last thing I want to carry besides my gun, pack and binos is extra ammo. I did that in the Marines and it sucked.

5 in the Rifle/Shotgun and 5 more in the front right pocket of my coveralls.

There has been an instance where I also had another box of slugs in my pack.  On a drive over a creekbottom I emptied the gun (5 shots), reloaded from the front pocket and emptied the gun again (5 shots) opened my backpack which was on the ground and loaded another 5 slugs and emptied the gun again.  There were 22 deer that blasted past me in waves on 5-8 each time and I hit NOTHING!!!!

After retriving said shotgun from down the embankment after I threw it down there, I got back to camp and re-checked the sighting of my red-dot and it was 4 feet right and 3 feet low at 50 yards.  Immediately went to the sporting goods store 45 minutes away and bought a low power (1.5 - 5) VXIII scope.
There were 5 or 6 guys in the store (all of us decked out in camo) and we all had the same thing happen to us .

Was able to fill my buck/doe tag in the next 2 days but launching about 2 lbs of lead in 30 seconds while hitting nothing but air is NOT something that is easily lived down in deer camp.  To make matters worse after I was empty and screamed "I'M OUT" the last deer to cross was so close I could have spit on her....

I dont trust red dots to this day.  I DID sight the gun in not 2 days before and dont know what cause such a dramatic shift in POA/POI.  Quad runs maybe??  Hauling it up into treestands??  Never had it happen to any scoped gun before but it was embarrasing as hell, and remains so to this day

In Tennessee?  Load the gun-lasts all season.  Carry what's leftover from a box in the pack. If I leave for a 3 day weekend and have 6 or 7 cartridges I'm good.

Carry a Sig 1911 .22 with one mag (10) and a spare on the holster.  The .22 is just in case a "Coupe de Ville" is needed.  Hasn't been needed since '98.  (Take a lot of kids for their first time).

This year I will be using a 1760s inspired Lancaster County rifle in .50 if I get it finished in time. For that I will take powder, lead, and patches for about 40 shots. I also plan to use a .300 BLK SBR(if the stamp comes in in time) and for that it will be 3 ten round mags. With both rifles the handgun will be a 1911 Sig Tac Ops with three ten round Chip McCormick mags.

5-6 rounds in my 300blk sbr and a full mag in my chest rig, along with my medical stuff, cell phone, GPS, spare batteries, water, and some snacks.  M&P 9 on my belt with a spare mag since that's my EDC.

5-6 rounds for my rifle. 30-30 336Y. i'll only put 2 or 3 in the gun when i get to my spot.

Four or five rounds for the rifle. If it is a repeater I normally just load to capacity and call it good.

I will also at least have my 642 in my pocket if not a larger handgun on my hip.

Nice- I do the same.  Built this in 1983

A box of a hundred balls lasts me years- and a .54 caliber 224 Grain round ball makes a hell of a dent in a deer.

If I'm using an AR platform (5.56 or 300blk) 10 rds, maybe a spare 20 or 30 rd mag, .308 bolt action,4+1 and an extra 4rd mag.
I always carry my CCW and a spare mag too, I've encountured the aftermath and stash hides for Meth labs on some of the more secluded areas I hunt.

10. 5 round mag limit on rifles. So I carry two five round mags full.

Magazine full plus a box (20) in my backpack.  I have carried a pistol many times, but no longer do because I don't want the weight.

If I take the Mini 30, I take a 5rd in the gun and an extra 20rd mag.  If I need more ammo I just take it off the 20rd mag.

About 5 years ago we could get unlimited amount of deer and I shot 5 rounds and got 3 deer in less than a minute.  It was more dragging and gutting then I want to do again.  I then sat in the stand for 2 more days and passed on 20+ deer.  I have scratched that itch.  Now I shoot one for the meat and then hunt for big bucks only.

Deer: 5 round mag in the rifle, another 5 round mag in my pack. Also a Ruger SBH on my chest loaded up with another 6 in the holster.

Small game: However many 22 shells I feel like carrying and my usual ccw.

No risk of drug runners/meth labs on the state land where I hunt. If there was, I would find another spot.

Depends on which rifle, and where I am going.  I typically use either .270 or 7mm Rem Mag.  The .270 magazine holds 4, the 7mm magazine holds 3. +1 in the chamber.  I normally carry 1 or 2 spare magazines.  Really depends on if I'm on foot, on my 4-wheeler, in my truck, public land, private land, etc.  Was really hoping to get a 6.8SPCII built up to use this year for whitetail, but not sure if it will be ready in time.  Location and game also dictates sidearm choice and appropriate mags.  Weight is huge, so my shitty answer is, "it depends".  Cats in the area? Heavily forested?  Warm enough for snakes still?  Desert climate or up north?

I've never taken more than one shot at a deer or elk, haven't needed to.  Everything is DRT or within 30 yds, or missed completely!(One cow elk I screwed up shooting uphill and hit the dirt about 2" low from the top of the ridge she was coming over.  sent it flying over her head, she took off running.  Got way too excited and was really close.  Was the only cow I saw the entire month of my special late season controlled hunt.

When I carry my 6.8 I have 1 10rd mag in the rifle

Glock 20 15rd mag in it and one extra mag in the backpack.

I carry 7 rifle rounds on my rifle, and usually what ever is left in the box in my pack.  Only mag for my pistol is in the gun.I might think about throwing an extra mag  in my pack.  I've been thinking about packing my suppressed .22 pistol for squirrels lol

Depends upon where I am hunting,  usually whatever it takes to load the gun and enough for a reload.

Now hog hunting I carry much more, and when I hunt the property next to the state prison.

When Black Powder hunting, I carry five balls and charges.  I also carry a .45 M1911A1 with a full magazine.(that is legal in GA with a CCP).  The .45 is not for hunting, it is for feral dogs and such.  When deer hunting with my 1892, I fill the magazine (9-10) rounds.  When dove hunting a 1 ton, pickup truck load normally does it.

If I'm in an area where I can carry by CCW, I usually carry about 10 rounds for whatever shotgun or rifle I'm hunting.  I carry a full doublestack CCW and a spare mag.  If I can't carry my CCW (some Federal land I hunt I can't), then I carry around 20 rounds.

My reason for the extra rounds is less about protection and more about safety.  95% of the time I'm hunting alone.  I always carry a signal whistle, my cell phone and let my SO know my general area.  However, I figure if I'm ever in trouble, a fiream is about the best noisemaker available, so I carry a few extra rounds for signalling purposes.
