I am getting my KX3 charged up this time...

Tomorrow from 0900-1200 cdt I should be on HF. I am looking at 15m starting at 15.308 21.308 and will move around if necessary. Not looking to create any pileups just want to get a couple QSOs in. Please no spotting this is an ARF adventure.

You mean 21.308?

What general vicinity?

What's your planned route?  I'm working but will be traveling in West TN, but can only do V/U from an HT. Maybe?

I have gotten western TN (Memphis) before on this route. We will be cruising around 25k so that helps. Propably 10-1030 I should be able to get you.

I'll call CQ on 147.555 if you want to tune that in

I'll be aero mobile then, too, but without a radio

Thanks. I'll bring the HT and hopefully a mag mount on the work car. I'll be somewhere between Memphis and Jackson TN by then.

If you want a bigger audience in the Memphis area, try 146.535, which is where the "big guns" tend to hang out. But let me know, I'll be listening.

Up until you said fl250 i was having images of a C172 towing a hundred foot of wire behind it. Lol

Aero mobiles are fun to talk to.  Back in the mid 90's i stumbled upon a pilot that was using a suction cup antenna in the cockpit on his weekly Chicago to Vegas run.  Would pick him up with my beam on 2m calling freq, and track him as he went. We'd chat taking a break every 10 so he could get more contacts. Did this weekly for 5-6 weeks till i stopped hearing from him.

I'm probably out of range but I'll put that in the radio and listen for you.

Sorry, forgot to reply.  I was listening on 2M and didn't hear a peep.  Again, I was in a company car with a cheap mag mount, but I did put the 857 in there.  I turned down the squelch and thought I heard voices, but I always think I hear voices in the static

Thanks for trying!  Maybe next time?

This is why my Dad wouldn't let me operate HF from his Cessna 150 back in the 90's.

He was afraid (and rightfully so) that my trailing wire antenna would get tangled up

in the tail feathers.  I did operate VHF with my HT from the plane using only

the rubber ducky antenna and did surprisingly well from 5,000ft.

I listened to 21.308 for several hours, but the band appeared dead.

Did you ever make any contacts from the aeromobile?

I didn't get anyone on HF. 21.308 was dead like all of 15m. I tried checking into a 20m net but was stepped on a couple times so gave up.

Did the normal 10 or so 146.520 contacts and then made about 4 144.200 contacts. 2m SSB is my new favorite from the air, those guys really get into it. The kx3 is unbelievable in the air with its ability to filter strong adjacent signals. I guess my AA batteries are old and gone. About 15mins in my radio died but luckily I had a 12v cable and power port on 2m the radio drew less than 2a on TX.

Sorry I didn't get to hit anyone up. We should be delivering another plane next week so stay posted.
