https://anytonetech.com. (Same company as Baofeng Tech)

They says that the radios are certified for part 90 & 95 and amateur.  I read the manual. To change to GMRS, you have turn power on while holding down function key.

Yeah, I kind of did a double take on that, shook my head, and moved on to read the stats. Maybe they hired someone from Mossberg?

Lol.

Curious what prices will be.

This part confuses me though....Baofeng is announcing that they aren't Baofengs, but rather Anytone?
There are some changes coming. Although we do not have intentions of quitting Baofeng, we are moving to partner with another manufacturer closer. I believe you are familiar about them and have posted about them before – their name is ‘AnyTone’. AnyTone has a much larger R&D lab and we already have four models lined up with many modifications we proposed.

I'm more worried about the short name and future versioning.

ANILE-8R, NSTIG-8R, OBLTR-8R, TERMN-8R

ANILE-8R v2?

Maybe less of an issue for radios with upgradeable firmware.

I'm interested to see the pricing.

I'm not a big air band guy, but I like the NOAA alerts.

Cheers,
Brick

Baofeng Tech is a reseller - not the manufacturer.

They are starting a new brand - AnyTone Tech.

No more confusing than Wouxun.us no longer selling Wouxun radios.

I need a TERMN-8R right now! I hope it's not vaporware!

How long before Ed from wouxun.us sends scathing email yelling about baofeng tech taking "his" brand....

Ok, thanks.

Fingers crossed that the full-duplex feature on the one model will actually work.

For a variety of reasons, four facepalms down.  Good grief.

Anytone had a radio last year (AT-3318UV-D) that had supposedly FHSS.  However, turned out not to be true FHSS -

http://forums.radioreference.com/budget-entry-level-transceivers/298085-new-anytone-hand-helds-fhss.html
"Initial testing seems to indicate that the Anytones don't do real FHSS. I set up SDR# on my laptop to see what the radio is doing when the FHSS button is pressed. It sends out a chirp on the programmed channel frequency when the FHSS button is pressed, and the display shows FHSS. Then when the transmitter is keyed, the transmission shows up in the specified 1MHz window, but the TX freq doesn't change until the FHSS button is pressed again. So while it's a convenient way for a group of radios to semirandomly change channels together at the press of a button, it doesn't appear to be true FHSS."

I am happy to see that someone is trying to innovate.  Baofengs have had the capability but not the certification to operate on part 90, MURS, GMRS, and ham bands.  To stay legal meant having to carry multiple radios depending on the capability I needed.

My wife is not interested in getting her tech yet.  Some of our female friends are so that may help motivate her.  But until then having a Part 95a capable radio is a huge plus.

Now if we can just get a truly low cost 25 watt GMRS repeater and a GMRS mobile radio.
