I posted this in Survival Discussions and they suggested posting it here also.
Thanks in advance!
I wore out a couple of Radio Shack (Sangean) AM/FM/SW radios over the last 20 years.
Used to listen to all the SW stuff in the evenings back when Kornke was on.
I need to buy a few new ones.
There are LOTS of them on Ebay.....some brands I recognize....some I don't.
Which ones are good?......which are bad?
Any real good deals out there?
Thanks again!

I have a few favs...or better yet, the ones I'd buy:
Sony ICF-SW7600GR
Tecsun PL-660
Sangean ATS-909X

When studying items for my podcast amazon affiliate store, I landed on at least those 3 for ones I thought I'd 'stock' after going through reviews and needs/wants.

The little SDR dongles are an idea too

Sangean ATS-909X.
I've had this one for 3 years, works well.
I put lithium hi cap batts in it.
Only complaint I read in reviews was short batt life, 10-12 hours on 4 aa alkalines.

I got a Tecsun PL-660 for Christmas and it works great for a desktop radio. The PL-660 will do AM/FM/SW/USB/LSB/CW/AIR. Got it for ~$100 on eBay

The GP-5 looks better for portable use.

Seriously,

Grundig/Eton S450DLX.

Does not do Single Side Band.  But excellent AM, FM, SW.  Also has connections
for other antennas.

So, why this radio?  If for your family, to use during blizzards, hurricanes, tornadoes, or just going on vacation, it is very simple
to operate.  Anyone can pick it up, turn it on, tune in a station.  Does not take studying the manual for 30 minutes just to get a
station, as per the old Yachtboy and many other similar radios.  Controls are easy to understand and operate.

Lack of SSB.  Really, no one but hams uses SSB, and to non-hams anything we are saying on the air is boring as hell.
Commercial SW is AM.

The sound quality of this radio is outstanding.  It will fill a room with sound, and everyone can hear clearly.

Less than $100.

No experience, but in general they have a good reputation.  They built their business around selling
good basic radios.

Their Twin Coil Ferrite antenna is excellent for long distance AM broadcast band reception.
