K1N Navassa Island DXpedition
There is a strong possibility that we will have two or three stations on the air tonight -- smack in the middle of Super Bowl XLIX!
The team on the island reports strong winds, very hot temperature, rats as large as cats, scorpions, Black Widow spiders, and some Haitians.  Despite all that, progress is being made building the camp infrastructure.

How long are they planning on staying on the island? I haven't seen any dates on their website. I am hoping to be on the air before they shut down. Would love to snag that one early in the DXCC quest.

That is REALLY tamed down from what it was when they were first on.  It was almost a solid wall of magenta up to about 7050 then.  It's the bad stations calling, the ops are mostly only working 10 up or less, so they'll never get them up there anyways.

I'll give you three guesses of the first two letters of the callsign that walked on the DX frequency.

Ha, yeah though I couldn't hear K1N on 10m at ALL today.  My IC-7600 had to go in for repairs (finals I assume) and just running a borrowed IC-7000 for the time being.  I don't have the shit to get the amp hooked up so 100W it is for a while.  Doubt the K1N and E20GMY contacts would have been possible with the dipole and 100W.

K1N is on 28490 listening down for JA right now.  He was weak with QSB an hour ago when I got home from work, but clear and strong right now.  You'll get him there, plenty of time left.  I still need 10 and 20 meters to make 9 bands with them.

I think they left shortly after I posted that.  They were also on 14155 listening 14240 - 14250 too but QRX 5 minutes at the moment.  The 20M station is supposed to be on 24 hours a day.

10M is amazing this morning.  I'm running a Yaesu 857D on solar/batteries with a Little Tarheel II as a ground mount at 100 watts and getting 59 reports all over Europe.  That's the rig I was using to work Namibia, too.
