I use a Yaesu FT-7800R as a base station VHF-UHF rig. I used to have the control head Velcroed to my computer monitor's bezel, but I replaced that monitor with a larger one that has a thinner bezel, requiring a new mounting solution. I came up with a simple stand made from two pieces of 6061 aluminum a bit less than 6" long. It's in two parts. The base is about 5/8" thick while the piece to which the control head is attached is 1/4" thick.
After getting cutting each piece to length I beveled one long edge of the base in my benchtop mill.
I then glued the front piece to the base with JB Weld and let it sit for a bit more than a day. I wanted a strong connection, so I drilled two holes with a #29 drill, then tapped them for #8x32 screws.
Screws in:
I scuffed the front of the piece with some sandpaper then degreased it with denatured alcohol, so the Velco tape I used to attach the control head would adhere.
Side view:
Rubber feet were added to the bottom to protect my desk and prevent it from sliding around.
All done:
Between the weight of the stand (~1 pound I guess) and the rubber feet, it stays in place when I push the buttons, and the head is present at a good viewing angle.
