Just a heads up. The club that I'm in will be going to the battleship USS North Carolina and working from the club station that is onboard. We will be arriving at approx. 10:00 am on Saturday May 10 2014. I don't know how long we will be there and we don't have any plans as to what bands we will be active on, so I guess y'all will just have to hunt for us. The original vintage ship radio's are down for maintenance (rats!), so we won't be able to operate them.
And in the future, if you happen to visit the USS North Carolina, if you contact the Battleship in advance you too can get an opportunity to operate from the USS North Carolina as well! Vulcan94 |

That's pretty cool. Haven't been since I was a kid.
Would be cool to work one of the rigs. Might have to try that out. Thanks for the heads up. I'll try to work you guys. |

I betting that not long after IDing that we are on the Battleship we should pop up on the spotting networks. Might even have a mini-pileup.

I'll try to remember to look for you. I took a tour of the USS North Carolina, back around 1963.

They have opened up more areas and have restored a Vought OS2U Kingfisher float plane. If I remember correctly, it had crashed on Calvert Island (British Columbia). From what I understand, the station is in a area that is not on the tour and we will have to pass through several watertight doors to get there. I will be bringing my camera so I can take some pics. I'd have to check my log but I busted through a pile up on a WW@ ship by screaming "Fire Mission!! Request Naval gunfire!!"
EVERYTHING shut down for that one and I called in the coordinates etc and we did a fire mission WW2 style. I ended it with, "Thanks, Mac! Ya clobbered him! Hey don't forget to check out the gams on that little tomato in Stars and Stripes!" |

You will be operating CW won't you? View Quote Our typical operations is phone on 20m with a YL at the mic using the station on the ship. 100w and using the very random wire of the ships antenna. Second station is in the museum building. 40m CW on 100w to a dipole. Call for the USS Kidd is W5KID. |

Well, Everything is arranged. We are going to arrive at the USS North Carolina approx. at 10:00 am on May 10 2014. So shortly after we will be on the air. What I'm going to do at some point prior to the big day is select some frequencies that I'll try operate on or near. That way y'all won't have to search too hard to find us. I'll post them here before the big day.

Well, the big day is almost here, so I have selected some frequencies that I (as in me) will try to work around so you can have an easier time locating us.
40M 7.190 - 7.210 20M 14.265 - 14.285 17M 18.135 - 18.155 15M 21.290 - 21.310 12M 24.940 - 24.960 10M 28.415 - 28.435 Altho we probably would be able to use the Extra portion of the band, I've kept them in the General portion for obvious reasons. I've also picked the part of the 10M band the any Novices and Techs will be able to join in on the fun as well. I can hardly wait for the big day to arrive! Vulcan94 |

post an update here when you get on, and we'll be sure to make a nice loud pileup for you.

I have a short trail race that day...hope to be home in time to work you! |

I just toured the USS North Carolina last August! I even had my KX3 sitting in the car but didn't know anything about being able to operate from the ship :( Will try to give you guys a holler on Saturday.
When we were there I didn't realize you guys had gators in the area until I looked off the starboard bow and one was swimming around out there. First one I've ever seen in the wild, and would be fine with me if it was the last! I don't mind bears and mountain lions, but gators give me the creeps... |

Tomorrow is the big day! We will be meeting for breakfast and then will head to the Battleship. We are planning to arrive there at 1000 am, so we should be on the air shortly after that.
I think that we will probably start on 40M, as that is where we always start when we put on a special event station. I don't know if we will be using the call of the host station, but our club call is Whiskey Four Whiskey Victor Lima. Vulcan94 |

Vulcan94, what is your first name - so I know if I am talking to you or one of the other club members. You could PM it to me if you don't want to make it public. ...or not PM it to me if you don't want me to know!

Bouncing around near 7.210 lots of nets and ragchews but no battleships I can find yet. |

14.260.0 right now.
Just a little too weak for me to make the QSO. Well, either I'm crazy, or he is gone and someone else is there. But I swear I heard someone say USS North Carolina. |

Who's the knucklehead on there now?
I might just start saying "5-up" lol |

I just checked for you guys but heard nothing. In fact I heard very little on any of the bands...seems like poor conditions?

I searched around for you, but could't find you today. What antennas did you use, your own or those on the ship?
|

The original antennas that were installed when she was built.
