I'm looking to purchase a lawn mower at the end of the season to take care of 2 acres of relatively flat grass land. I don't want to break the bank, but I also don't want a maintainance nightmare or something that I'll have to scrap after 2 or 3 seasons.

I've heard many people on the forums mention the Husqvarna GT48DXLS as a solid tractor for the price. Is it overkill for my needs?

Is there another mower would would better suit me?

Not overkill.  Engine/deck looks about right for 2 acres.

Personally, I'd go with a garden tractor.  A little heavier-duty - bigger frame, bigger tires, hydrostatic transmission.  When I had three acres, I also had a 300 foot-long driveway that I plowed with the tractor in the winter.  Abused the snot out of it, and all I had to do was change the oil and replace the belts.

Something like THIS

GT48DXLS is a garden tractor, hence the GT and not YT.  24 HP Kawasaki.  K66 hydrostatic transmission w electronic diff lock.  I was going to break down and get a Deere, but they are so expensive.  Discovered the GT48DXLS and bought it and I love it.  I have 3.3 acres with some good slopes and it does great.  I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.

Google GT48DXLS and look at the tractorbynet links.  Someone else here bought one, and I think he's been pleased too.

ETA:  it's mentioned in a couple threads here too.  Here's one
