I had a cheap loud generator once.

I was damned glad to get rid of it.

That said, if you are on a tight budget, and have NOTHING.... then something is better than nothing.

Personally, I'd rather spend $400 on a cheap champion 2000w gas sipping inverter generator, than a 4500w noisemaker with unknown record.

If dual fuel is a big deal to you (it was to me) I got this and I am really happy with it (but it is more than double your example above.

US Carburetion/Motor Snorkel regularly does half-price specials on their propane/natural gas conversion kits - which puts them in the $100 ballpark.

Add a name-brand generator for $300, and you're there.

Or, buy the generator now, and run it on gasoline until the next time the Motor Snorkel kits go on sale.
