I have raised beds at home that are weed free, but we have a more traditional tilled garden at work. It is absolutely covered up with pigweed. Damn stuff grows back as fast as we can pull it.
Any idea why it has taken hold with a vengeance this year and never before? What's the best way to eradicate it without killing off the vegetables?

So in this traditional tilled garden at work, you have not been overrun with pigweed before?
If the answer is no, then the reason is that there was not a mature pigweed upwind of that garden until now.
Pigweed is one of the most insidious weeds in the universe. There are two kinds. Red root and white root. But they are both a problem.
That said, all they take is pulling when they're small. Don't let them go to seed.
Chop out the weeds between rows, and pull the ones around the plants.
It is the only way. There is no easy way.
