Been cleaning the woods around the house (4.5 acres total, 3+ in woods). We have been cutting saplings & undergrowth as well as removing deadfalls & leaners. The 3038e runs the chipper & the 1025R hauls cut up dead falls, stumps & other trash wood to either the wood pile or the "rot" pile (mostly the latter).  Saplings & material 6" or smaller are chipped

The 3038e usually lives over at the "farm" (20 acres mixed woods & fields w/pond), about 12 miles from the house, but we trailered it and the chipper over to help with the cleanup.

Question for you, does the pto lift the chipper up so you can haul it around?

yep, not a ton of ground clearance at the back end but enough for fairly level ground. If more clearance was needed I would remove the pto shaft & shorten the top link.

Thanks!  I do too!

Anything that has potential appeal as firewood ends up on the wood pile for neighbors & family (we don't have wood heat capability here til I bring a stove down from WV).  But no one around here wants pine in any condition, or partially rotted wood.  There really hasn't been any interest in what we used to call "stove wood", stuff smaller than about 8 inches.  Most of what we clean up ends up either on the "rot pile" (a gully at the back side of the property) :

or a chip pile:

This is what we are working towards:

and this is  what we are starting with:

The term "rot pile" makes me sad.

Good looking place there OP.

Thanks!    (guess I could call it a "long term composting site" )

Yes, let's go with that.

I would take all the pine and any "sticks" you had.

To far for the wood hauler though.

I got about an acre and half in the back with a lot of china trees. It is so thick I can't pass in some places with a 4wheeler.
I have been doing the slash and squirt method of trying to kill all those trees. It is slow but I am making some headway.
I plan on letting the trees rot standing up. I will come in with "my little tractor" and a 4' bush hog.
This is a very long term project. I would do better off getting a dozer for one day and be done with it.

I can do that same thing in 10 years with fire, or in 50 by just letting things be.

OP, you're a champ.  Big-ass job.

Just be aware Mother Nature doesn't really like it when we screw around with her and she WILL try to return the woods to OEM condition :)

I get to use this about once or twice a year to clean up around the farm.

About $130,000. I actually get to use it free and get paid to use it.

I'm jealous of OP's woods.

I want to clear the woods around our house, but we have more rocks and boulders than we do saplings. It would take a mini excavator to make it a little smooth.
