Well the fall crops are growing good and it shouldn't be long until we start harvesting.
The peppers took a hit last night at 28 deg and we are expecting another hit tonight. That will probably finish them off. I tried to find some row cover but no one had any. Sorry I haven't posted in a while. The garden is slow and I've been busy. |

Mid-20s knocked 10 gallons of peppers in face. Most of my fall garden is under 1" tall. I waited for the drought to break before I planted. looks like I might be too late for most of it. TRG |

TRG Sorry to hear about your peppers. We lost 12 pepper plants, 5 basil and all of the okra. The second night dropped down to 23 deg. We did manage to save the lettuce and napa cabbage. Our collards are over a foot tall and everything else is growing like champs. I'm just hoping to get some rain over the next few days. |

Hey brother, everything looks nice. Those chicks look nice. Sorry you haven't heard from me. A lot going on here. Give me a call anytime you are free....

Well the garden is chugging along despite not having much sun in the past month.
We have been harvesting radishes, mustard and lettuce for a couple of weeks. The broccoli, napa and cabbage are starting to head. The romain is about done and the iceberg will soon follow. We wound up with 6.01 inches of rain yesterday. The beds handled it nicely. The only bad thing going on is we got hosed on the chickens. They are all roosters So I have to find some recipes to deal with the last six birds. Once they are gone we have a reputable source for the hens. |

if I was a neighbor I would sneak a egg into your coop about once a month
about how long does broccoli take for you? mine are growing nicely and are about 18" tall but very thin stalked |

This is my second year with broccoli. Last year I planted plants on 10/7/12 started harvesting 12/30 plants produced till 2/10/13. They need lots of water when they head. I would say inch to inch and a half a week. This year I planted the same pacman variety but also the premium. I will take pics as soon as I can. It has been a little busy arond here. Thanks for rubbing it in on the roo's I needed a laugh |

Not much going on here. We are going to start seedlings in the greenhouse soon and get the beds tilled and fertilized for April.
Got the soil test back and already got the proper fertilizer. It seems no one had a good crop this winter, everybody is complaining. Is there a waiting period between fertilizer and planting? I have to put in 120-0-120 in garden one, 120-0-180 in garden two and aluminum sulfate in both. Thanks. |

You still harvested more carrots than I have in three years of planting them.
Radishes, Turnips... I knock them out of the park. My carrots don't even get to the size you grew. TRG |

How long do you let your carrots grow for? Planted on September second. I just sowed some carrot seeds today. I didn't plant any last year but I did the year before and they did okay but I never thinned them so a lot of them were smaller than I would have liked. Carrots are one of the things that don't seem to mind the heat so much as long as they are kept watered so I think I will try to leave this crop in for awhile to see if I can get them to a decent size. |

I read this entire thread in one sitting. I will be starting a garden for the first time this spring. I've started plants indoors and once everything thaws out I'll give it a shot.
This thread has given me a lot of ideas and I'm excited to get started. I've also got a lot motivation to learn how to can now. Please keep this thread going! |

I'm looking forward to mud season so I can start the garden. I'll work on starting my own thread about my gardening adventure. I plan on transplanting the seedlings I started into bigger pots this weekend. Maybe that would be a good place to start the thread. EDIT: Thread started HERE thanks for the inspiration. |

Well I have everything prepared in the garden. Now I have to wait until saturday to plant because of the rain tomorrow.

Well it dropped down to 31 degrees the other night. Thankfully I had everything covered and didn't lose any plants.

I'm surprised you planted some of those things with the soil temps still being so low.
I am waiting another week on some of my melons and squashes to allow the soil to get warmer. I lost too many last year to cold soils. TRG |
