I have a Source bladder that I used in my hunting pack.  Now that season is over, I'd like to clean the hydration bladder more thoroughly as normally I'd just rinse and refile between trips.  Anything better than a typical sloshing around of some warm water and a hint of dish soap?

A touch of Clorox bleach and water to sterilize/rinse, flush a couple of times. If you are going to store it make sure it has some air in it to keep the sides apart.

I put a whisk inside of mine to help it dry. Keeps the sides from sticking!
I usually just do dawn and call it a day.

I just fill mine with everclear in the off season and let it sit

Saw this on shark tank awhile back but haven't tried it yet.

Mild bleach solution and a bottle brush. Hang upside down to drain. Camelbak makes a cleaning kit that includes a hanger that keeps the sides apart so it dries.

The usgi replacement bladders used to be $3-4 each from unclesams. Use it until it breaks or gets skunky, then replace it.

Also, only use it for water. Anything with sugar will quickly funk it up.

Not sure if this works for bladders but when I buy USGI or Swiss surplus canteens to get the shitty plastic/funk smell out of them I'll drop in two denture cleaning tablets and let them sit overnight. Next morning after a quick rinse the only smell left over is a light winter mint smell.

I just run water though all mine and flush them.  I bet I never have cleaned a Nalgene bottle either.

Tap water seems to have enough chemicals in it for me.

Another vote for a light bleach solution, soak, agitation, rinse.

You can also do a final soak with some arm & hammer baking soda to remove any bleach taste, then rinse and air dry.

I do a dab of bleach then slosh around then drain through the tube and rinse a few times. Afterwards  I store it in the freezer.

I rinse with hot water, fill with hot water, add a couple glugs of bleach, seal, shake well, drain some through the bite valve, then store like that.  When I need to use it dump, rinse, fill with drinking water.

YMMV, but I've never gotten the shits.  I only put water in mine.

ETA  If I want to dry it, I'll coil the tube and stick it in the bladder to keep the sides apart and facilitate some air flow.

Dish soap and water, with a bottle brush to scrub out the corners.  A bent coat hanger can be used to keep it open and help drying.

I would store mine in the freezer after each use. just empty the water out of the bladder, blow into the tube to clear the water out of it also, shake that water out. then freeze. No bacterial growth there my friend!

Pretty sure the Camelbak tablets are just a denture tablet... They do the same thing, smell the same, and what not. I could be wrong.

I use the denture tablets though. Used em for my 2Q and now my Camelbak knockoff :P

Yah, I've used the Camelbak tablets a couple of times and they seemed to have a slight effervescing action.

That seemed ok, but I think I'll go back to unscented bleach just for the cost savings.

Fill with 1/2 white vinegar & 1/2 water, let sit a day. empty, let dry and store with cap off in cool dry place.

A teaspoon of unscented household bleach, fill with water, sit overnight.
Rinse well a couple of times with warm water.
Drain and let dry well before storing.

Denture tablets, white vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, oxiclean all will work.

I like cheap and easy, bleach fits that well.

I brew beer, and use bleach to sterilize carboy and bottles.

A couple of tablespoons will work on a 5 gallon carboy overnight.

I use hydrogen peroxide or vinegar to sterilize my c-pap water reservoir.

Denture tablets are really good on toilet stains by the way.

I only fill mine with filtered water from my Berkey.

When I'm done I just go OCD with paper towels to dry it and then I put it directly in front of fan for a couple of hours.
